I understand why wizards abandoned science. I couldn't, however, understand, why they preferred like.. prehistoric stuff. Not using ballpoint pens, for example. I know, a quill looks way cooled and wizardrier' , but srsly, a ballpoint pen or a pencil is just easier. Owls take longer to deliver a message, than a phone (and you don't always have a fireplace around)

Also, are wizard-born kinds all home-schooled? They have to learn how to write, count and other basic stuff children learn in school. I bet muggle-born kids are way smarter...

What ever happened to guns? I never understood why they couldn't just gun-down that nose-less prick with a shotgun.

ACCTHUALLY

sorry to be that guy, but isnt there a scene where harry goes to the weasleys house in the second film and molly was knitting, doing the dishes and cleaning other stuff while she was 3 floors up?

It's called a charm. You cast one with a wand and then peace the fuck outta there.

In that particular scene, another wizard puts up all the chairs by raising his hand. Dumbledore stops harry from falling during the Quiditch match "aresto momento". Animagi transformation can happen without a wand, as well as apparation (I think) Dumbledore makes the cupboard go on fire when he meets Tom Riddle in the orphanage. House elves perform magic without wands.

I think only wizards can perform magic without a wand to a noticeable extent if they practice at it, like how you have to learn to use a wand. I remember reading somewhere that all wizards had magical potential, and wands simply directed that potential.

Dumbledore, Snape, Mad-eye, Hemoine, Lupin, and Voldemort could all perform wandless magic, though this unnamed wizard is indeed a badass

This is Voldemort pushing aside a giant's corpse wandlessly. He also disarms harry with an idle wave of his hand in Phoenix. There you go.

Guys, chill, it's just Harry Dresden minding his own business.

What if this wizard was secretly always in the background, throwing a small spell here and there to help Harry and the others?

What if the only reason they won is cause that wizard threw in a little help from the shadows?

Technically wizards can use magic without wands, but wands focus their powers. Wizards can do almost as much as goblins, but the fact they are simply weaker than goblins, they banned goblins from using wands, as they would be way too powerful with them.
Would be an interesting plot-line for a story based off of harry potter.

I can agree that quite a few wizards have used wandless magic in the series, but all of those instances, they had to focus on what they were doing. This guy is contemplating the universe whilst reading and also using wandless magic to stir his drink.

Just thought I'd throw that into the fray.

Did Fereripixies even read the books, or see the movies for that fact? Almost all advanced wizards can use spells without wands, it's just not powerful and takes a lot of concentration
User avatar #111 to #107 - angelmatvey (04/16/2013) [-]
Then that means Science Wizard can casually read Stephen fucking Hawking while performing magic without a wand just to stir his coffee.

Science is probably also way more powerful, you always think the wizards from Harry Potter are just far above our civilization.

I'd love to see Voldemort just succeeding in the Hogwarts battle and then proceed to try and take over the mortal world, like how his army would just get obliterated in a matter of seconds by some F16, stealth bomber or fighter helicopter.

In reality, Avada Kedavra probably isn't even as powerful as a gun.

(I'd still take a wand over a gun.)
