Ligers and tigons are two very different hybridizations, so you can't really combine the two. Since a liger is a cross between a male lion and a female tiger, it's massive. Male lions have a growth promoting gene while female lions have a growth inhibiting gene, which act together to create normal-sized offspring. Since there was no female lion, there was only the growth-promoting gene passed on without the inhibiting, making the liger grow to be huge. A tigon is much more rare and much smaller because of the opposite gene effect. They look totally different.
