I know the person who posted that and was in the conversation...that was pure sarcasm. Note the capitalized "True Christian"...it's a forum meme for referring to people who claim to be the REAL Christians, and the other ones are fake. The quoted person is an Australian lesbian and quite thoroughly awesome. Quote out of context FTL.

i find religion entertaining. i mean after all, what else has been the reason for so many deaths in human history? nothing. so many wars, so many killings, all in the name of some religion, because this religion didnt agree with the other, so the other should be destroyed. many times killing the other people so they convert because of fear. and religion still kills today.

First, the population of the world during communism was much higher than the population in the time of the so called religios wars. So everything should be taken in perspective.
Second, i don't think that the fact that communism was an atheistic regime has anyting to do with the nomber of victims. It's more likely that the paranoid rulers had something to do with that.

However, humans have existed for over 100,000 years. Considering that evidence of religious rituals extends to the age of the Nethanderals, and that history has only been recorded for a few thousand years; the possiblity that the deaths in one CENTURY of atheistic slaughter is GREATER than one hundred thousand years of deaths in the name of God, Allah, or unknown deities is incredibly unlikely.

there ARE substances that can withstand multiple types of acids. and not only that, but bases neutralize acids, therefor, just because something is acidic, does not mean it melts EVERYTHING! Whoever wrote this should try looking into Chemistry before discrediting it.

The irony is that most of these Christians haven't even read their own Holy Book. Of course that was why the printing press was originally hated, because the church couldn't keep a monopoly on the few bibles and keep the public from reading them. Guess they didn't have anything to worry about after all. I used to be a Christian, then I read the bible. I am not an atheist because I have proof there are no gods. I am an atheist because none of the gods man has made up make any sense to me.

i am neither an atheist nor am i religious i do not refuse to believe but i do have a question for both sides of this argument

1. It's actually rather easy to disprove something that can't be seen, felt, tasted, heard, or smelled.
2. Why do you assume that because I don't believe as you do that I am self-centered.
3.I've never claimed that I am all-knowing, I simply don't need to invent an all powerful being to explain what I don't understand.

I dont really get why science types and the religiously inclined argue so much. The point of the bible was to NOT take everything so literally. It was to teach a series of life lessons using parables in Jesus' life that mimic difficulties in everyone elses life. Whether they happened or not is beside the point. It doesn't even matter if he excised or not. The point is to read the lessons that he teaches us and try to live as better people because of it. I'm athiest but I still believe what Jesus taught was right. Same with every other major religion. Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, its all the same shit, from a different pile. But I am confused because even if everything in the religious texts isnt true, the shit in our world is
