Spelling is a catagory of the larger subject that is grammar.

Well, Grammar is roughly defined as the whole system of a language. Spelling is part of that system so spelling is basically part of grammar.

I suppose this is just me, but I'd always considered spelling to be a subsidiary of grammar.

You cannot fathom how many times I've thought the same thought. Every time someone corrected a spelling mistake and said something along the lines of "lol I'm a grammar Nazi" a part of me died on the inside
