I use to really feel for the homeless. I wanted to help.
Then I stopped simply donating and started volunteering.
I worked with the homeless and really got to know them. As people

They are a waste of oxygen. The sooner we stop helping them, the sooner they all starve.

That's only for the ones with no job/no desire to get a job. There are people who work full-time but still can't afford a home.

My sister goes to med school near Detroit, and she is in a program that gives free health care to the Homeless, the stories she tells me give me chills.

One lady, who wasn't actually homeless but unemployed, had bipolar disorder, which is very personal to me and my sister because our mother is bipolar and that is a struggle, often we feel like the parents, anyways this lady, both her parents had been murdered before she was 18, she had been in and out of prostitution, been homeless a few times, and she came home to her apartment and found burglars were in her house and they raped her. She has no family, no friends, just a cat. She went to this program for a basic check up and just to talk to someone.

Makes my heart grow knowing I'm not the only scumbag out there.

Not even 1% of homeless people have the ambition to recover from their state and actually get a job. Most of them thrive on the free help they constantly keep getting. What's worse, begging is such a profitable "job" some shadowy groups have appeared out there that are actually mutilating people and sending them on the streets to beg.

There are few cases where homeless people actually deserve help. Also - it screws up natural selection, dammit !
User avatar #245 to #53 - Jackimole (04/09/2013) [-]
There's a Sherlock Holmes story about a journalist who pretends to be a beggar for a story, but then finds out that he made much more money.
User avatar #246 to #245 - asmodeu (04/09/2013) [-]
I remember that story. The old man living at some dirty, ill reputed inn, who, as I remember, threw his coins out the window so he wouldn't get caught. He quit his job so he can take on the life of a beggar, then, at some periods he'd buy goodies for his wife and child(ren?) and post them.

I also remember some instances where Sherlock would disguise himself as a beggar so he can snoop on people without raising suspicions.
#119 to #53 - xxxsonic fanxxx (04/08/2013) [-]
In medieval Europe, begging actually was considered a profession. The Canterbury Tales references the fact that clergy members set up areas where only they could beg, and other beggars would be kicked out.

Just so you know.

they seem like waste of oxygen because of the situation they're in, the built-up of circumstances and decisions that brought them to that point, whether it was something serious or just plain stupidity.. anyway, what i'm trying to say is that an individual's opinions, perspectives, goals, moral standards etc. are based solely on social surroundings and beliefs of those around him, his culture, religion, whatever.. and i just don't see how a homeless man could even have a chance of being "oxygen worthy" since he never knew better (before he got to that point in life and once he did) and, out in the street, there's hardly any hope of enlightenment.

i don't know why i felt the need to say this

Especially since a lot of homeless people (at least here in america) are just too lazy to get a job and want to use our tax money as welfare checks. But for the homeless who are actually homeless for some misfortune they can't control, i do feel for them

It's not a bandwagon because he's famous, it's more of a snowball where he gets some thumbs, then people see that there are lots of thumbs and give even more thumbs and it just goes out of control from there.

I live in a hostel...I am classed as homeless. But I agree, I moved out due to abusive parents and then the person I lived with moved abroad. Some of the people I live with are ok, but one of my current housemates steals, everything, food from me, when he knows I have less money than him...the guy before him used to beat me up, even went for me with a knife once and cut me up, also used to steal **** . And others who come here have no ambition to get a job, and sit on their arse and moan and do nothing about it, where as I go to collage every day, and work damn hard to try and get out of this situation. People are too complacent.

You know, you really inspired me. I've been in the ******* myself these past months. My dad left my family for some harlot, and my mom is currently unemployed. We have no financial help and I can only rely on private investments my grandparents made on farmland. Lately I've been having thoughts of simply giving up. But reading your post gave me a sense motivation. Yeah I'm not getting the grades I truly desire to get but with motivation I can achieve them. And if I give up then what will I do to support my little brother, sister, and mom? Life is about pushing through even if there is a storm. Heck, even after every storm is a time of peace. Best of luck to you my friend. And thanks for sharing your story.

It's no problem buddy :) as bing crosby sung, when do you find a rainbow? Only after rain :) Later in life you can look back and say, against all the odds, you beat this. I know that feel, how easy it is to give up, how every time you get knocked back you think " **** this, I don't give a **** anymore" but **** 'em ya know, any one can be what they want to be, I'm only 18, I've already acted as a motorcycle courier, done archaeology on a roman sight, and experienced more of the world than most people have. When I got out with my buddies I **** about, try and make people laugh, and we usually leave people in stitches just from being silly. I think the most important lessons I have learnt is that : It could be worse, do what makes you and those you love happy and personally, I'll fight to the death for someone I love too. Pic related, the tattoo I got in lieu of this situation :)

A "collage" is a group of photographs that are snipped and glued together in order to form a "bigger picture" of sorts, rather it be another picture or something you wish to accomplish, dreams, etc.

"College" is a structural building in which you attend classes to get a degree in your desired field.

Means a lot bro. It makes me appreciate the little things. Times got quite bad this january, lots of debt, my girlfriend went into psychosis and I had to battle her parents to get her help, even though the doctor put her on meds they refused to believe she had a problem. But I promised her I'd stick it out, but then her parents made it so I couldn't see her again...I was suicidal and had to be removed from collage by police for my own safety. I'm a bit better now, I had a crippling motorcycle accident as well last year, I walk with a limp and will never have full use of my right wrist and have constant pain in both. I also suffer from cluster headaches, nicknames suicide headaches because of the amount of pain and how debilitating they are people commit suicide. But gotta stay strong, if not for me then for my old GF, and some friends who rely on me :P

I used to know one homeless guy called one drag Danny. He was about 25 or so. Used to hang around near the town hall, looking at all the modified cars at the weekly car meet, he'd walk around kicking the tyres pretending he gave a **** /knew what he was doing. Every time I saw him I'd share a joint with him, he'd be stoned after one drag (which is where the name comes from). Never once asked for money, didn't want it because he knew he'd lose it. He slept in a tent on a round about and didn't really worry about food either, just the cold.

He lost all his money investing in stupid **** that never paid off, eventually got into drug dealing and lost it all and apparently he's never been happier. I think he died this winter though, poor guy.
