Well hold on, if given a director who knows what he's doing (And I'd argue Peter Jackson knows what he's doing) and a decent script (it's Lord of the Rings. Whatever your personal feelings about the novels, you can't deny they're excellently written stories) Nick Cage can actually be a really good actor. It might have been a little bit worse, but it certainly wouldn't have ruined the whole movie.

I completely agree. I hate it when people blame CGI on the movie's script or the direction. But for Star Wars Prequels, people are not blaming CGI on the movie, they are blaming the fact that George Lucas relied completely on CGI animation that he's only offering eye candy rather than giving a proper screen play, writing and direction to tell a story. Brainless followers will just take half of what is the truth of the critics and summarize it to CGI screwed the story up.
#121 to #18 - tastycupcakes (04/06/2013) [-]
where does it say anywhere in that post that the green screen was the easy way out? the only mention to it was george lucas standing in front of it. to me this post was saying, "hey look what we used to have to build to make it look worse then when we put it all in green screen.

calm down dude, no one here is attacking your major
User avatar #20 to #18 - elielentir (04/05/2013) [-]
Well yes, but imagine the movie was made without the green screen. Now that would have been difficult.

it obviously isn't as difficult otherwise they would have never opted for cgi

I'm not saying it isn't extremely difficult, I'm just saying that in order to make a film of equal quality without a green screen would be almost impossible and the people that managed to do so were geniuses of their own. A perfect example of this would be Bram Stoker's Dracula. As such CG can be seen as "easier" not implying that it is easy at all.
User avatar #77 to #33 - akkere (04/05/2013) [-]
No, they opted for CGI because it's cheaper than having to spend money on custom props.

Because you know, movie productions have budget, and money doesn't grow on trees.
#39 to #18 - John Cena (04/05/2013) [-]
While I completely understand your point as a film maker, I (like most people) enjoy authenticity. I would much rather buy an authentic vintage car rather than a newly built replica just because it looks better.

Even the greatest quality stuff I've seen that was added with greenscreen.....even though it looks great, you can still tell that SOMEthing isn't quite right. It sometimes is enough to distract from the movie. Sometimes I miss stuff like Jurassic Park 1, even if stuff is only robots or puppets and stuff it can still look 100% real. CGI isn't quite there *yet* I don't think.

Having said that though, I think when it's good that stuff is amazing and even if it's bad I feel bad for the workers who sweated their nutsacks off with probably a ****** budget or something and now everyone thinks CGI is cheap and stuff like that, I do admire what they do and I hope someday they can make everything look as real as real life.

Ann(e) Hathaway would had made an awesome Harley Quinn, just for an opinion, I think she's awesome in everything. Kristin Bell would also be an awesome Harley Quinn.

I dunno, she delivers a solid believable performance every time, and doesn't seem to be a bitch in real life. To each their own I guess?

I think I need proof for the Robin Williams one

He was originally cast alongside Billy Dee Williams for Burton's 3rd Batman film, when the studios thought the concept was too dark and kicked Tim out to make room for Schumachers vision. Being taken off the role, I know Robin Williams has applied to play a multitude of Batman characters since: primarily the role of Nolan's Joker.
#96 to #32 - jdsalenger (04/06/2013) [-]
A Batman movie that was way too dark?
User avatar #120 to #96 - seedymack (04/06/2013) [-]
Let me re-phrase: a batman film too dark to sell to a family market for cinematic value.

In example, even something as somewhat dark as "The Dark Knight" had to be re-edited a lot and the amount of blood taken down to just 2 showings because that was the highest amount of "darkness" they were allowed before it surpassed the rating of 12a

I always thought it would be awesome if they made a movie where all the superheroes and villains were transported to another universe where their opposites live (Good guy joker, Evil Batman etc.) then all the good guys would team up and vice versa then theres an hour long, all out, badass war between them, i would die happy if somebody made that.

there's an actual movie that is what you just explained, Called Crisis on two earths (get the pun?) But it does not have an all war against them, and the fight scene lasts for maybe 25 minutes, it's still good but doesn't have Kevin Conroy for batman, which sucks
