Actually fire against zombies would be pretty effective. It wouldnt be instant, but it would definately stop the zombies, slow them down by burning through and destroying muscle. It would work, but a bullet to the head would be more effective.

Why not... swords?
User avatar #181 to #4 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
The majority of humans aren't strong enough to cut through human flesh, bone sinews. You will find a few that will carve zombies to pieces, but you gotta remember that zombies don't come alone (most of the time) and being that close to a bunch of zombies is probably a bad idea no matter who you are.

If its just one or two you could probably use a sword pretty effectively, you just gotta look out for zombie blood getting on you and your wounds (if you have any) as that can also cause infection.

Scalemail armour!
User avatar #359 to #357 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
Scalemail doesn't provide protection of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Your move.
User avatar #360 to #359 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
I was thinking of using a helmet with it!
User avatar #363 to #360 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
If you actually want to cover your eyes, nose and mouth you will need a full face helmet of some description. You have now lost your peripheral vision. You now have zombies clawing at your back ripping your helmet off you and biting you etc. Your move.
User avatar #365 to #363 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
You're making this more difficult than it has to be. Have straps for the helmet and chainmail armour under the full helmet and spin around in circles!
User avatar #366 to #365 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
You're in a zombie apocolypse son, it's as difficult as it has to be. Your plan would work for maybe 30 seconds before becoming too dizzy to remain stable. You have now fallen to the floor whilst wearing heavy armour. Zombies are now clawing at everything. Their drool slips through the slots in your helmet and into your eyes. Your move.

Alright let's go back to start.

I just relax at my house not noticing anything because I live in Norway!
#369 to #368 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER.

Ever heard of hypothermia kids? Those damn zombies would freeze and be unable to function due to extreme cold. Tempretures in norway can reach -40 degrees celcius in the winter!

And that kids is how you survive a Zombie Apocolypse!

Well it can get to -20 around my place. But I live in a microscopic town far out in nowhere so I think I'd be safe.

But I still want to use a sword and shit!
#372 to #370 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
I shamelessly pulled the -40 degrees bit from a website that probably made up lies because it was also trying to sell me a holiday.

But if you wish a sword fight, then brother have at thee!

Eh it can reach -40 if you live at the right place.

Eh it'll be fun! I just have to find a sword.
#375 to #373 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
I have 2!

This is a poor quality picture of one. The other is being loaned to a friend for a short time.
User avatar #399 to #375 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
Exactly, that's why I like bastard swords.

Though I am fairly interested in Japanese swords, polearms and archery.
User avatar #406 to #399 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
It seems you have replied in the wrong place. Thank god i'm at least a little bit awake at this time for a change.

Using Katanas would be no problem whilst doing casual training, but most people buy norse weaponry so that they can go to various reenactment shows and participate in them. If thats not your scene then you could definately invest in a solid Katana and use that. Spears are VERY common and I find myself often fighting with or against them. Archery is less common but there is definately a place in the reenactment world if that's what you're looking into. My personal club does archery practice from time to time, using LARP arrows.

Nope, couldn't reply more below.

Intradeasting. I like all sorts of old fashioned weaponry... well most. Not that much of a fan of axes and blunt weapons except halberds, poleaxest etc.

Wonder if there is anything good near Aberystwyth(I call it Abaccus)
User avatar #376 to #375 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
That's a norse sword, right?
#388 to #376 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
Correct! I don't think it's based on any archaeological finds but it is definately based on them. This is only a cheap sword and isn't that fancy.
User avatar #392 to #388 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
Figured so. I am considering getting myself some swords, maybe when I move to Wales.

Any suggestions on what kind of sword I should get?
#394 to #392 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
A sword that doesn't break. A high quality sword will set you back maybe £200-300(1750-2600 norwegian kroen) if you are planning on using it. You need to login to view this link has some excellent quality swords that can be made in sharp for decorative usage or blunt for reenactment purposes.

Pic is my favourite sword from the selection.
User avatar #395 to #394 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
Hehe, yeah I know the price range. Just thought you might have had some suggestion on the type of sword. I plan on looking up a swordfighting club or something when I move.
User avatar #398 to #395 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
Ah I am personally very fond of bastard swords, the flexibility of using it with two hands or just one is very useful when it comes to fighting with shields.

User avatar #391 to #388 - kapane (04/03/2013) [-]
i meant, its not a replica of any archaeological finds
User avatar #393 to #391 - satrenkotheone ONLINE (04/03/2013) [-]
I figured that too.

1) The average Funnyjunker (Or at least me) is too weak to use a sword to decapitate a human.
2) The blood and guts are -definitely- going to make a mess.
User avatar #28 to #18 - killerliquid (04/02/2013) [-]
>zombie apocalypse
>worrying about making a mess

yep

also, don't forget that they're rotting so...
User avatar #43 to #28 - instalation ONLINE (04/02/2013) [-]
I'm not talking about making a mess on the street. The streets were doomed even before the apocolypse would happen. I'm talking about getting guts all over yourself and getting infected because of 'dem juices.

Though if zombies are rotting, it'd only take a couple days for them to explode.
User avatar #45 to #43 - killerliquid (04/02/2013) [-]
I wonder if they go through rigor mortis then start moving...
User avatar #47 to #45 - instalation ONLINE (04/02/2013) [-]
Unless you're a samurai, you're going to have a tough time cutting exactly where the tendons are. Don't get me wrong, I know you're trying to say they'll be weaker than a healthy human. But it's not a simple job. Plus a zombie isn't going to stand still for you.

An axe might work nicer because of that extra weight behind it. But I'd think pistols/ firearms/ fucking cross bows. are the safest way to go.
User avatar #51 to #47 - killerliquid (04/02/2013) [-]
That's not what I meant. I mean't in a none combat situation ;_;
User avatar #52 to #51 - instalation ONLINE (04/02/2013) [-]

Wait, you lost me here.
User avatar #53 to #52 - killerliquid (04/02/2013) [-]
There's no humans around just the zombie in the place it died....uuh first.
#54 to #53 - instalation ONLINE (04/02/2013) [-]
What.

Please just explain.
What.

Please just explain.
User avatar #57 to #54 - killerliquid (04/02/2013) [-]
Okay I may fail horribly.

You are observing a zombie to see if it does anything strange. You wonder if it goes through rigor mortis like any dead body would. A week goes by and it apparently does get rigor mortis.

I'm really just asking a question.
#62 to #57 - instalation ONLINE (04/02/2013) [-]
I didn't know that's what you meant.

Yeah, over time a zombie would just die. But since they're rotting, they're basically flesh balloons.

Real Life bodies will rot. Their collins are filled with e'coli and other bacteria. That will all release a bunch of gas. In the sun the rotting and gas producing process is just faster. Because a zombie is still walking, and their digestive tracks basically don't work for shit, the gas will build up until there's a nice explosion.
