I'm a big fan of the elder scrolls, dark souls, dragon's dogma... would the new tomb raider be a good game for me to try?
#384 to #1 - bizarredread (03/26/2013) [-]
It's a pretty linear corridor shooter, and the puzzles are.... **** .
#247 to #1 - infinitesinz (03/26/2013) [-]
It's nothing like those games, look it up on youtube.
#204 to #1 - Absolute Madman (03/26/2013) [-]
Yes it is ******* epic.
#182 to #1 - Absolute Madman (03/26/2013) [-]
yes, as long as you dont mind the sub-par multiplayer

Nothing will ever be as awesome and rewarding and balls difficult as Dark Souls. And I don't think it's anywhere near similar to Tomb Raider. Same goes for Skyrim. Tomb Raider seems to be more like Uncharted
#200 to #179 - Absolute Madman (03/26/2013) [-]
Well Uncharted was just a copy of Tomb Raider in the first place so why not turn it around?

Opinion incoming, load your red thumbs and get ready to fire.

It really depends, though. Of course I can't speak for everyone, but If you have, like I, played and enjoyed any of the old Tomb Raider games, you will probably find this game to be Alright.

But in my opinion, this game is a.. 4-5/10 at best.

The story is like something out of a Lost episode, and was way too predictable. The story starts REALLY strong and leads you to believe that this is going to be a mature experience, when it really isn't.

There is not much "Tomb" about this tomb raider game. It's more like an action game than an adventure game. Which would be fine, if the gameplay wasn't repetitive and bland.
And if you aren't a fan of Quick Time Events, then this game will be excruciating, because there are Quick Time Events lurking around every single corner.

The graphics are stunning though. Beautiful scenery, and Lara has never looked more gorgeous.

In summary, this game isn't bad. I just think of it as a dumbed down experience, and it wasn't quite what the game was hyped up to be.

If you aren't sure about buying this game, you should probably download it first, just to get a good feel of it.

I agree with pretty much all you said, but I also loved the physics and how realistic Lara's movements were. But story was a huge disappointment - it had so much potential and they didn't quite capture the mood right... I still think it's worth getting though
User avatar #90 to #89 - GeneralBiscuit (03/26/2013) [-]
Thanks, and I DESPISE quicktime events >.<
#150 to #90 - crosskill (03/26/2013) [-]
I am not even kidding when I say that all of the Quick time events lead to Lara falling down 30 ft. and then stand up right away and just walk it off. And it happens ******* often.
But as others have said, it's an okay game. But don't even bother playing the multiplayer. No one else is playing it, so you'll have a hard time just finding people to play against.

I haven't played it yet, I saw 10 minutes of a livestream.
I do, however, like the games you listed, and I found the livestream appealing.
The fighting was top-notch, but it looked a little repetitive.
7/10 should rent.

Oh yes I recommend it. Play it one hard because believe me it's just a bit too easy.
But it's so good regardless the story is amazing, the cinematics flow into the game, beautiful graphics, it's a bit of a corridor game but not to the point of where you want to pull your hair out. So yeah, get it!

I beat the new tomb raider and it was really good 10/10 would play. pic not related
User avatar #29 to #1 - Rignoroth (03/25/2013) [-]
do you like pointlessly shooting enemies in corridors with puzzles that solve themselves, a pointless leveling system, sub par character models and a multiplayer that really shouldn't be in it?
I'd give you mine if i didn't already trade it back in
#21 to #1 - Absolute Madman (03/25/2013) [-]
Played and beat it. It is really good and I highly recommend it.

Dragon's dogma: Dark arisen is coming out soon, gotta hook that **** up yo!
User avatar #11 to #1 - VexedSpartan (03/25/2013) [-]
Get the game. Just... Holy **** . Get it.
User avatar #240 to #11 - thedarkhavok (03/26/2013) [-]
I think 'holy ***** is a serious overstatement. The story is bland and predictable, and Lara's character development occurs in about half an hour. The gameplay is great, though.

omg alex fak yu

You should let me borrow it.
User avatar #6 to #1 - dingojohn (03/25/2013) [-]
I don't think so..

The new Tomb Raider has a strong emphasis on the young Lara Croft going through personal transitions, becoming the hardened Tomb Raider we know from earlier games.

The game is a linear corridoor shooter disguised as an RPG-elemented adventure game. As far as I understand at least...
User avatar #43 to #6 - thevoid (03/25/2013) [-]
I suppose in the beginning it's linear, but once you get a few hours in you have quite alot of freedom when it comes to travelling around the island looking for tombs and relics you missed the first time around.
User avatar #3 to #1 - puut (03/25/2013) [-]
Those seem to be more medieval games. It would be quite the shift to play Tomb raider, unless all you play in all 3 is archer.
User avatar #4 to #3 - GeneralBiscuit (03/25/2013) [-]
Not strictly archer, but it is a required skill to use a bow during some sections. I'm more interested in the "atmosphere" of the game, i guess. Lara is typically exploring ancient ruins and fighting magical statues and stuff, in addition to terrorists etc. right?
User avatar #5 to #4 - azakiel (03/25/2013) [-]
I'd say you should try out games like The Witcher, Two Worlds II, and Fable.

Two Worlds II in my humble opinion was bugged beyond belief, some enemies were WAY too overpowered, if you got the bonus armor/weapons at the start of the singleplayer you were practically a god, and pretty much EVERYONE hacked the multiplayer...I for one know someone hacked and gave me a few hacked items that boosted me to the millions in stats...overall...not fun at all unless you just wanna **** around, also? The story? Don't really bother...you will kill yourself trying to bother.
User avatar #7 to #5 - GeneralBiscuit (03/25/2013) [-]
played fable 2 and 3, loved two worlds, both of them... I'm kinda out of games to play right now, most of them don't look like "my kind of game". Well thanks for the advice guys :D
