Yeah. I remember back in 2000 or so when the Babylons defeated the Americans, while the Romans nuked Russia.

When England captured Germany's capital, who retreated to it's smaller coastline cities, built the great wall around said cities, created the first tank and plowed through all of England. Then them and Russia had an arms race, to which Germany got ahead and nuked the **** out of them
User avatar #2 to #1 - psychopsychedelic (03/23/2013) [-]
And the Germans destroyed England and made China their bitch.

And then got wiped off the map by the Ottomans.

Meh, one time the world existed in peace for most of the game.

The ******* Indians threw a wrench into that by declaring war on the ottomans, then me declaring war on the indians which caused a chain reaction of wars.
I came out as the victor but with only a few civs left in the world.

Reaching the Industrial era almost always brings about worldwide war over various things if you civs weren't killed off quick enough early on.
User avatar #8 to #7 - psychopsychedelic (03/23/2013) [-]
Exactly. We all lived in Harmony until I got a nuke. I have a really light trigger finger. That wasn't quite the Industrial Era, but I know what you mean.

As soon as people pick up guns in my games, the ******* gloves come off all at once.
All long enemies declare wars, friends become enemies, and I'm forced to conquer half the world even though I just wanted to play a peaceful culture/science collecting civilization.
And my policy towards other civs is that.. If you even ATTEMPT to mess with me.. I will not hesitate to simply wipe you away from the world.

I had this happen in a game a few months ago.. a rather disappointing situation too.. from ancient to early Industrial, I had a great close-by ally, the Byzantines. We traded a lot and helped each other in wars against other nations. It was at the time of the Industrial era, I denounced another empire that was being a prick and I wanted dead. But apparently Byzantium was friends with them.. so all of a sudden I was forced into a full scale war against them.

I won, rather easily.. being so ahead in technology that I had infantry while they still had musketmen. It was for the best I guess, as I become a world power because of it. The best in science, culture, money, and control over almost the entire game's city-states. This was all while the rest of the world is killing each other too.. so.. yeah.

I had a war once with Rome. When my army got to their border they offered half of their cities in a peace treaty. (I like tanks)
User avatar #32 to #13 - darthblam [OP](03/23/2013) [-]
Damn. I've never been able to intimidate an empire like that. They always declare the war and then, even when I am ******* destroying them, their attempts to negotiate peace have ME giving THEM cities and resources. So I'm pretty much forced to just wipe them out entirely...
User avatar #85 to #32 - goldalot (03/23/2013) [-]
I know that feel. Even when someone declares war on ME I'm the one who gets denounced!
User avatar #11 to #9 - psychopsychedelic (03/23/2013) [-]
It's so hard to just stay in the shadows.

If I could hide in the background and let them clear each other out, then conquer the conquerors, I'd be happy.
#126 to #3 - anon (03/23/2013) [-]
I had a game where there were 12 civs on one continent and we all lived in peace with the same religion. Then I researched military tradition and signed defensive pacts with everyone. The next turn somehow war was being declared by everyone and caused a massive world war.

I took the Roman Empire, renamed it into "Grand Empire of Vatican", took Islam as my state religion, nuked the **** out of everyone and then proceeded to colonize the south pole in Civ IV. **** historically accurate.

Playing Civ 5: Gods and Kings
Get great profit
Found Jewish religion, and rename Nazism
Meet city state of Warsaw.
Warsaw gives quest to spread Nazism to Warsaw

is gods and kings worth the money?
User avatar #216 to #162 - apietotheface (03/24/2013) [-]
Eh it depends. It really doesn't change to much. Religion is interesting but doesn't have that big of an effect. The spies are cool, but again not too much of a difference. I personally only liked William of Orange from the new leaders.
User avatar #172 to #162 - thedumbledore (03/24/2013) [-]
I would say so. Religion and espionage are interesting, then you get some cool Civs to play (Theodora of Byzantium, Gustavus Adolphus, Atilla the hun and more)
You also get some new wonders and units, it's well worth the money if you like the original game.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW:

During the initial release, Ghandi had an initial aggression of 0. However, Ghandi uses Pacifism as a government type, which applies a -2 to a civ's aggression levels.

Since you can't have a negative value, it resets the aggression levels, much like the pedometer in a car.

Which gives him an aggression of over 250. The highest in the game.
User avatar #100 to #96 - Jewssassin (03/23/2013) [-]
Pedometer?
Im sorry friend, but I've never heard of a "Foot meter." Care to explain?
#120 to #100 - Thenewguygunther (03/23/2013) [-]
but pedometer's do exist, they're the things you wear to measure how many steps you've taken and how far you've gone while running or walking
User avatar #121 to #120 - Jewssassin (03/23/2013) [-]
Yes I know that, but he was talking about something on a car.
User avatar #103 to #100 - Jewssassin (03/23/2013) [-]

So if his Aggression was set to 2, allowing Pacifism to bring it to 0, he'd be fine? Is there a patch/mod/fix that irons this out?

Napoleon took over Europe as fast as Hitler did, then proceeded to fail just as hard after trying to take Russia in the winter.

Sure they haven't had a great record after the War of Independence but before that there was a reason why France was one of the only countries that could take on England.

you know nothing of bloodthirsty traitors until you have aligned with the romans, seriously, in one game the romans (my neighbours, 20+ cities, all low territory and population, versus my high population, high territory 4 cities) would repeatedly go to war with me, we'd fight for a few turns, decimate each others armies, then he'd make a peace offering, and afterwards just be totally cool with me, no after-war bloodlust, he was just like "lol sup bra, that war was cool, EXP for all my units eh? so wanna trade some cotton?"

******* romans

>Playing Civ Revolution as Germany.
>Gamemode where everybody is at war with eachother.
>Scumbag game decides to put me in the middle of the map surrounded by four hostile nations. The Aztecs, Greeks, French, and Chinese.
>Spend first half of the game fending off attacks from four directions. The Aztecs were the biggest pain in the ass while Greece and China were mostly beating the **** out of eachother.
>Start to discover solely military advancements in order to survive. Producing cannon and riflemen while the other nations are still throwing rocks at eachother but my people are cultureless barbarians.
>All cities are producing military units and weaponry at full capacity. Launch simultaneous attacks in three directions, by now, China had almost wiped out Greece.
>My endless hordes of technologically advanced barbarians crush all resistance quickly and mercilessly. Those douchebag Aztecs attempt to surrender in the face of their impending doom. No.
>Destroy all other civilizations except Greece, because their pitiful civilization wasn't worth what little effort it would have taken to destroy them. That, and I couldn't find them.
>TL;DR, my heavily armed advanced German barbarians crushed everybody.

My lack of culture bit me in the ass in the end. My best unit was in an Aztec city that revolted and went back to them. It still wasn't enough to stop the endless tide of Germans. The map was literally coated my armies. That game was the definition of overkill.

In game Ghandi is set to have his aggression level at 0, but then when he takes a policy (forget which one) which he is set to do it will decrease the level by 1 point. This leaves him at -1 and the games ***** around to make him the most warmongering ruler in the game.
User avatar #188 to #31 - JoshBauer (03/24/2013) [-]
Another commenter said it resets because you can't have a negative value in aggression, so it goes to the highest level.
User avatar #225 to #188 - superlow (03/24/2013) [-]
Yeah it's something like that. But, it's more of a running joke for the developers as they knew about the issue in one of the first games but decided to keep it in.

Ghandi is the most bloodthirsty tyrant in the whole game, together with Montezuma. With difference that Montezuma is most of the times nice to me.
