Pool. It has four letters, but the 'o' is repeated, so technically three. It is often written "swimming pool." Swimming has eight, and again pool has four. Pooled is a word that has six letters but isn't used very often. The fact that 'pools' is a word with five letters really holds up my answer, but I suppose you could still count it based on the fact that the riddle is written entirely in singular form and "pools" is a plural word when not in its verbal form.
By the way, I know the answer is "what, yet, although, then, rarely, and never," but I wanted to find a real answer to the riddle. I hate when they're just word play that go off of your own supposition that the author is incapable of properly using punctuation.
