I do believe Greek philosophers made something up for this. It was that knowing your fate makes it inevitable. Without that knowledge, fate means nothing.

You travelling back in time would have been foreseen and accounted for, therefore any and all attempts at changing the future would actually have been necessaries for such events to occur.

That is really cool! Never knew the Greeks were the ones who thought of it. You can also look at this as a dimensional thing. The fourth and fifth dimension to be more exact. The fourth dimension is a single timeline from start to finish containing certain events. The fifth dimension contains multiple timelines where they start at the same point and end at the same point but there are different events that lead to different paths that diverge from each of the other paths or converge depending on the events. The event described here could have been just one path where she did run and ended up dead. Another timeline that diverges from this point in time could have been where she stayed put and stayed alive. This is just dimensions explained from string theory and stuff like that.

We exist in this universe and this universe's timeline. But there are other universe's that have their own starts and finishes (multiuniverse portion of the theory). When this universe ends, so do we, but that doesn't mean that is the overall end because there are other universes that are ending and being created by different means so there will never be a true end.
