Imo, i think it just depends on the personality of your pet and how they were treated as a puppy/kitten. I know plenty of dogs who are hostile and unfriendly. I for one have an amazing cat. He sleeps with me every night, follows me around the house, runs to me when I get home, and always seems to know when I'm upset. He has a great personality. My other cat that my mom rescued from a bad family, is scared of EVERYTHING and runs away from me, but he is ALWAYS with my brother and he is to my brother as the other cat I explained is to me. Cats and dogs can both be assholes but they can both be awesome. I'd hardly call my cats selfish. Pic related, black and white cat is mine, grey cat is my brothers.
