Piracy is only bad because that's how companies perceive it as. It hurts the people who don't pirate.

I'm fine with piracy as long it isn't stealing, but it's still hurting the industry in the form of extremely dumb business execs trying to make sure you don't pirate.

After doing some calculation, I figured out that the film industry loses less than 7% of their profits to piracy.

Cool. What about the video game industry? I guess I didn't specify that I was talking about video games.

The video game industry loses just under 9.5%.

May i ask were your getting you information? I'm not trying to be a douche or anything just curious.
User avatar #176 to #173 - chiktikkavaspaus (03/21/2013) [-]
Wow. Do you think it's really worth it to screw up people's experiences just to try and get some of that 9.5%?

Really stupid and greedy if you ask me.
#290 to #176 - John Cena (03/21/2013) [-]
Are you trolling or something? You're calling someone greedy because they want to stop people from literally stealing almost 10% of their income? You obviously haven't worked an honest day in your life.
How about you give me 10% of any money that you earn. Not hypothetically as a thought experiment to make you realize you're a hypocrite. Literally give it to me because you're greedy and don't deserve the money that you earn.
User avatar #325 to #290 - chiktikkavaspaus (03/21/2013) [-]
I'm not making millions a year while ripping people off, so of course 10% would be a bad loss for me.

Companies are composed of people. If you get a job some day, it will be at a company. Or if you work for yourself, you are your own company. "Company" doesn't mean some amorphous force and the money generated by companies doesn't disappear into the void. Those millions of dollars go to pay other humans. A company is basically something that creates value for society which people are willing to spend money on or (in your case) steal.

^ precisely.

All arguments in favour of piracy eventually come down to some ******** about companies being "greedy" or gamers being poor. Newsflash! If you've got a problem with the prices, don't buy the games! The companies sell at that price because they know people will buy at that price, same reason Apple sell earbuds for about £30 a set when they make them for about £3, they make up the price, there's nobody to say "no that's far too high" and even when they do, it doesn't matter because it's a desired product. If y'all weren't so desperate to play the same games as everyone else the price wouldn't be so damn high.

9.5% is a really significant margin. I disagree with their methods, but that is a lot.
User avatar #181 to #178 - chiktikkavaspaus (03/21/2013) [-]
Well, ok. But still. They're going to extremes to try and get more money when really all it's going to do is create more piracy.
User avatar #182 to #181 - waaw (03/21/2013) [-]
Yeah, it's pretty stupid how they do it. I'm against piracy, but I'm also against their crazy DRM and **** .
