Just out of curiosity, what was the true answer to the Sphinx's riddle?

Also, Oedipus is, like, the definition of a Tragic Hero. Literally. English classes use him to learn about tragic heroes, I guess that's what comes of ******* your mother and murdering your father while trying to avoid that very same destiny.

Obviously it is man,

He crawls around on 4 'legs' as a baby, walks on two as an adult, then his penis grows huge and he walks on 3 when he's older!

They could all be a baby:
It crawls on all fours at first. Cut of it's legs and it hobbles around on two limbs. Give it a crutch and it can hobble around on three.

For those wondering the answer was "Man"

As a baby (morning) you crawl on 4 legs (2 arms, 2 legs). As an adult (noon) you walk with 2 legs. As an elderly person (night) you walk with 2 legs and a cane, so 3.

The Sphinx committed suicide after Oedipus answered correctly

Excuse me, Oedipus, but I believe the answer is a baby.

Normally it will crawl on all four limbs. Remove it's legs and it can only hobble around on 2. Give it a crutch and it can sort of get around on 3.

>Remove its legs
This kills the baby

I love how the sphinx looks like he wouldn't give a crap even if he answered wrong.
"Answer my riddle, or I'll, you know, do stuff... ugh guarding is hard...

mfw i just wrote a 500 word essay on the justifications Oedipus gave for his actions

btw the answer is man, morning being infancy, crawling, day being adulthood, walking, evening being old age, using a walking stick
