No unfortunately Canadians can't take credit for that. It was the dominion of Canada on behalf of Britain, since at the time we were no more than a British colony. Canada became a country in 1867, 55 years after that took place. We did kick some serious ass in WW1 though :)

I know but in technical terms it wasn't us. Just like Canada didn't technically join WW1 of its own volition. Our foreign affairs we're still dictated by Britain at the time so as soon as they declared war we automatically did too without any deliberation on our part. It probably has something to do with the way the date sounds. "4th of July" sounds a bit more impressive than "July 4th". For any other date however, we generally put the month ahead of the day.

Does the year come before the month? So first it is 2013 and a moment later it is January?
Does the month change before the day changes at the end of a month? I never realized that.

It's actually a very logical way of organizing days of the year
CONSIDER:

there are more days than months, and more years than days. therefor the smaller number will (more often than not) usually be the first number. Then the second number will usually be greater than the first number and smaller than the third number. Then th third number will be the largest one.

It is probably because saying July 4th is just saying the date, since it goes month/ day/ year in the States. Saying "The 4th of July" is simply the way to show that the date is a holiday.

I'll agree with the logic of it all but I think that when comparing Celsius to Fahrenheit, Celsius loses in a sense. Yes it is more logical, BUT because it has a smaller range of degrees between freezing and boiling it can't be as precise. A change of one degree in Celsius is greater than one degree in Fahrenheit. I would take precision over that.
