Canada has the best airforce jets and pilots in the world. They don't start wars, but they sure as hell help in a lot. Canada helps the US and Great Britain in most of their war endeavors, and its actually (I believe) a tragedy that their help hasn't been recognized in US news media right now.

"Never start a war, but be prepared for one" or "Expect the best, but prepare for the worst" can explain that.

I've been on the HMSC Montreal. All 11 of our Halifax-Class Frigates are named after major cities. Considering we have a larger coastline than any other country, it makes sense for us to have a reasonably well-equipped Navy.

The thing about the Canadian army is, we're admittedly not the best equipped out there, but worldwide they are some of the best trained. Just look at the JTF2 who have more confirmed kills of high ranking Al-Qaeda officers than any other force.

The key word here is confirmed, take into account all of the secret/classified operations the US and Russia conduct under the radar and i guarantee that gap isn't very wide.

"If I had Canadian soldiers, British officers, and American technology, I could conquer the world." - Winston Churchill.

That quote let alone should tell you that Canadian soldiers are one of the worlds best.

Also one of your closest allies is the US, and by being an ally with the US then you also are protected to a point by the US's powerful allies.

It's like being friends with the popular kid in school. You're friends with one of the top dogs and that top dog is friends with other top dogs so by default, you're now a top dog. Canada is set.

Well... our Prime Minister is currently Stephen Harper who's falls into the category of "Greedy Asshole" fairly nicely, it's just he's trying to abuse our own natural resources instead of attacking other countries for oil.

one greedy politician does not equal all of congress, the senate, AND the cabinet.

See, in Canada it does kind of equal the Cabinet, because the party leader can force his cabinet to vote the way he chooses. Also the Prime Minister in power is the one who appoints members to the Senate as older members retire. This means that in a majority government (one party holds 50%+1 of the seats), the Prime Minister often holds way more power than seems fair.

wow. that seems like it could go south really quickly, but could also be fixed. In the US, it took a while, but is now irreparable.

Well the opposition parties can call for an election at almost any time, the prime minister is not bound to a 4 year term he/she can serve for as little as a couple months (Kim campbell) or as much as 21 years (MacKenzie king). It really is the people who decide and I guess the majority likes harper.

It's oddly entertaining for me to read this, since I am not used to the term "cabinet" being used for anything else than, well, a cabinet, as in furniture. So i keep reading it as some kind of cabinet being part of government.

I'm a simple man.

I have family who works for Irving oil and I recognize that you are talking about the pipeline. Right now Canada is carting the oil by train across the country to the ocean because the oil is worth more when it can be transferred by sea to other countries. The oil that is not being carted to the ocean is being sold to America for very low prices. Harper is trying to build the pipeline to cut down on costs and emissions caused by moving the oil by train.
