Why does nobody understand how great the Empire was...
The Sith? Pure evil. But the empire, was not evil. They were simply grasping the universe too firmly. They never raided someone they didn't have to, but when they did, they were brutally thorough. The empire simply wanted what the Greeks, the Romans, and the Macedonians desired; Total and unopposed control over the known universe. Their rule was harsh, but they were not baby killers. A rule under the empire would not be terrible, and the empire had the resources to eventually make a great universe. The Emperor, while terrible and evil, was on his last legs, and Vader was soon to take his place. We've seen Vader's soft side, and we know he would rule much more kindly. As for the clones/storm troopers, they're just being ordered to do what they must. The Rebels cannot control a rule over the universe, because they lack the resources. The entire reason they even survived episode 6's battle was because Vader decided that he would save his son. If he hadn't, or if Luke had gone to "The dark side" then the rebel's death would be inevitable. The rebels cannot protect everyone, and after a while, their numbers and resources would dwindle down to a fraction of what they had during the war. The best way to protect the galaxy/universe was to let the Empire rule, let time run it's course, and then let Vader fix things, and after Vader, IF Luke had turned, we know Luke would rule fairly. Of course, this is just coming from some dude that likes the empire, so please, post a rebuttal for the Rebels. However, refrain from "They r da good guise" please, it's not really a valid argument since from the empire's eyes, the rebels were terrorists.

Didn't they take slaves, kill children, and constantly kill members of their own ranks?

I guess you're right. The United States killed Native Americans and took slaves, and sort of killed their own in the Civil War.

And after terrible, abusive people, we evolved into a race separate of mankind, dependent on motor scooters, guns, and the everlasting battle of McDonalds vs Burger King vs Wendys vs KFC.

Not evil? They denied Wookies their sentience although they were clearly intelligent life so that they could use them as slaves.

I'm pretty sure in the books and novels that followed the aftermath of Episode 6, the Empire kills Luke Skywalker and crushes the Rebellion.

I pretty much agree with you, but don't forget that the Empire was also infamous for the mistreatment of multiple species. Vader destroyed the Noghri homeworld for the sake of testing a powerful chemical weapon, while making false claims that the Noghri would be rescued and their planet restored. The Empire supported Trandoshan slavers and hunters, and used them to capture thousands of Wookiees to be used for slave labor.
Chewbacca was captured and tried escaping from a slave ship but was mortally wounded. He was only saved when some young TIE pilot named Han Solo disobeyed his commanding officers order to execute the rebellious Wookiee.
The Empire may have had better control of the galaxy and its resources, but they atrocities that they committed during their reign overshadow the few good things they may have done.
Palpatine supposedly formed the Empire not only to control the galaxy, but to prepare it for the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. However, their control of the galaxy was ripped away in less than 30 years by a group of nerf-herding terrorists. Plus, some of their best soldiers were defeated by little bears with rocks and sticks. The Yuuzhan Vong would have torn the Empire a new asshole.

This is actually a valid statement 0.0
But then again the romans weren't excatly the best people in the world, and the greeks fought each other more than other cultures, leading to their demise, Rome fell from ****** politics, and so would have the empire, to be replaced by the northern people (which are the equivilent to rebels), which is what would have lead to the medival times all over again, but in space, So the rebels would have taken over ether way.

Well, Emperor had clones, and the soul-swap thing, but overall I agree. The New Republic, as the Old only caused wars and death inside the Galaxy, which costed probably many more lives than the Empire would have ever taken.
Besides, The Empire, led by two most powerful Dark Side users in history, with armies commanded by tactical geniuses (let me remind everybody that military genius was a requirement for being one of the Great Admirals), with Death Star (perhaps Death Stars) would crush the Yuuzhan Vong as soon as they attacked and push them outside the Galaxy forever. Or destroy them completely. The New Republic was on the brink of destruction for, like 20 years of hecatomb?
tl;dr - Screw the good guys.

When the Empire took control, he put many crime lords that he had used to fund the Droid armies in charge of their respective territories. Organized crime was prevalent, with bounty hunters in every cantina. But as long as they remained loyal to the emperor, like the Hutt family, they were tolerated. Also, these rebels weren't such a small minority of the population. Many planets in the system were in on the reforming the Republic, and that lead to the destruction of Alderaan, meant to send a message to other rebels in the for of nearly 2 billion lives. As with most dictatorships, happiness is not necessary, only loyalty. Much of the Empire's population was despondent, but voicing this would constitute swift punishment. That is why the rebels had to act in secret, for public outcry was itself an act of rebellion.

Can't argue with the crime thing. But one can say, that Empire throught those first 20 years almost in constant battle with opposing forces. Perhaps, once the opposition would be crushed, or reasoned to cease, freedoms would build over the lasting leriod of peace. We'll never know, thanks to some Senators who were angry for power being taken from them.

ing resources, monopolizing industries, and having a puppet media distorting truths, as long as there may be "freedoms" in the future. Also, I'm pretty sure the Senators were more angry at all their planets lack of representation in their galaxies government than their loss of power. But that's just me.

Well, I think it depends on a scale. Personally I'd prefere the Confederation to win and establish their order (or their freedom). But what I'm saying, is that The Empire was the better alternative than the chaotic and disorganized New Republic.

Starwars Nerd here, the Confederation wouldn't have done anything at all if not for Palpatine's manipulations, first of tax laws that started the Trade Federation's embargo, which was used to manipulate Amadala into putting herself out there to become Supreme Chancellor, combined with further laws that eventually pushed the different groups of the Confederation (who were also being manipulated behind the scenes by Palpatine) into open rebellion, thus creating conditions for not only a massive military to not only be produced, but hardened by war (so that they would be able to face any rebellions) and to place Jedi in the middle of this war, isolated from each other to make them easier to kill.
The point of everything was the destruction of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Sith Order.
