He was Korean but he didn't fight for the Korean army. Korea was a Japanese colony so he was conscripted to fight the Russians. Making it: A Korean man fighting for the Japanese army who was captured by the Russian army to fight the Germans. Which led to him being captured by the Germans by the Russians and then being captured by Allied forces by the Germans

Did that make sense?
