I know it's technically perfectly safe, but the mere hint at that situation where the blade would actually start rotating is enough to make me clench my sides.

In addition to the being a centrifugal clutch for the chain, there is also a chain-break that anyone with a brain engages before starting the chainsaw. Also, a chainsaw is not the easiest thing to pull over. There is no way possible that he would be able to pull start it while holding the blade between his legs, the whole chainsaw would just move upwards as he tried to pull start it.
A chainsaw can be so difficult to pull over for weak ass bitches that they actually designed the handle where the throttle is so you could put it on the ground and step on it to hold it down as you try to pull start it.
Now quit trying to make this seem like that the guy is a moron when in fact it looks more like he is trying to out why the pull rope didn't recoil back the way it should have, which does tend to happen quite often with crappier chainsaw.

Have you? Apparently not, else you'd know the chain is clutched, that clutch RPM dependent and when cold starting with the choke on that RPM is often high enough to engage the clutch & thus, the blade.

But hey, don't get me wrong - if you're secure enough in your own BS defo go right ahead & try it lol
