Guys, correct me if I'm wrong about this.

We're looking at a closed system.
We know the entropy inside it can only ever increase, which, according to the Gibbs-Helmholtz formula G = H-T*S inevitably leads to the decrease of free energy until it reaches a level too low to sustain life.

In short, though this system can sustain itself for very long time, it is inevitably doomed from the moment the cork is put in.
Kinda depressing.

Found the kink, it's not a closed system.
Heat and light can enter, which can raise both temperature and enthalpy.

So as long as there is an external power source, this plant may life indefinitely.
Derp.

But the heat and light that enters is in a closed system....I think aha

It is a closed system where energy can move in and out. He meant that it wasn't an isolated system (one where both energy and matter cannot enter/escape) but got confused.

Theoretically it's possible; what we call "age" is a bunch of cellular defects accumulating until they kill you.
All of those defects could be reversed in theory, there is no reason any life-form cannot be made to have an unlimited life-expectancy.
Our only problem is that we don't have the technology yet.

A guy called Aubrey deGrey heads a project about exactly this, you might wanna check it out if you like this kind of stuff.
Even though the guy's kinda weird, his work is fascinating.

Thanks mate, I'm a major science geek though so I basically already know all this stuff, I was just making fun of your grammar :b

Ah. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'm doing my best, but my English is not as good as I'd like it to be.

I just had to study this stuff nonstop for a chemistry exam.
Anyone can do this.
