I don't understand pirates, If you think its a shitty game and not worth your money, then how do you justify torrenting the game, you must want to play it to some degree. Sure the just because you torrent doesn't mean there is going to be a lost sale, but you still don't deserve the fucking game, don't get mad if they try to stop you from getting it for free.
User avatar #535 to #510 - rainbowtacos (03/10/2013) [-]
A lot of people aren't willing to pay that much money for a game without a test run, games are expensive. So a lot of people will torrent it to see if they enjoy it, then buy the game. There are also a lot of people who are jack shit poor.
User avatar #533 to #510 - onionbubs (03/10/2013) [-]
Because Im too poor to afford games, perhaps?
Maybe someday when I get a job, I'll buy the actual copies of them, or even just another game by the same developers.
But for now, I cant do jack shit.

Too poor for a car? Go without. Too poor for a house? Go without. Too poor for a cellphone? Go without. Too poor for video games? FUCKING STEAL IT

All pirating shows is that you want the game but don't want to pay for it. You really want EA to stop the way they practice STOP PLAYING THE GAMES

FUCK

This whole site is a bunch of hypocrites. You all want something for nothing. You don't feel devs deserve to be paid for their work, yet you still take it? You think, oh this isn't worth my money, but I still want it. So I'm just going to take it and justify it by saying they are bad people. Who cares. If you don't want to pay for it, you go without. Plain and simple. Otherwise you're just hypocrites and leeches.

I buy if it's indie (or by a studio that I know and like), if it's a series I already know or if it's something that I've been expecting for a long time (pre-order). if it's some random unknown game by a big publisher then I'll pirate it.
User avatar #141 to #3 - scooterpony (03/10/2013) [-]
Except for the fact that it will be months, possibly years for Simcity to be cracked. EA's servers do a lot of work for the game, pirates will have to figure out exactly how their servers function before it can be cracked.
I'm actually not just spewing bullshit, Google that shit.
User avatar #31 to #3 - propanex (03/10/2013) [-]
source for the Simcity download please? I want to pirate it rrrrr.

Except Pirating is really bad for the smaller developers and isn't exactly a good way to "stick it to the man" either... think about it this way, the always on DRM of Simcity was put in to prevent piracy, we can bitch and moan all we want about their greed but the fact is people who pirate don't give anyone money, that includes smaller devs, and yeah EA as a publisher is about as caring to PC gamers as i am to my dick (that is to say i beat it on a daily basis because im very much alone) but YOU aren't a consumer, you therefor forfeit your say in everything gaming related, fine maybe you dont have the money to buy full priced games, but does that mean you should really deserve to play them? pirate if you must but dont pass it off as something so awesome, its because of the ease with which computer games are pirated we have a lot of these shady business tactics, and while some companies do it out of necessity, Pirates allow the larger more stable companies to justify their own horrible nickle and dimming business models because of people like you who brag openly on the internet about how you pirate everything... if you pirate then dont speak, its not cool its just just a self centered "i deserve the world for being alive" attitude of the "civilized" world, you dont pay you dont really deserve to play, and its people like you who brought all this about you greedy mother fucker... I will bathe in these red thumbs, I will relish them for i only receive them for standing up for an industry which is ridden with cancerous self righteous assholes who think they're cool because they get their kicks from taking something they didnt pay for, like sneaking into an amusement park and bragging about it to their friends because theyre so awesome, you Pirates make me sick

#7 to #6 - photonmik (03/09/2013) [-]
Get off your horse.

My experience is that "smaller" devs are the bigger guys, they don't put DRM on their product to fuck over paying users. Also, their games aren't 60$ a pop either.. So most people pay for their product.

DRM only stops legit people from playing, not pirates.

#11 to #7 - winglit (03/09/2013) [-]
You still dont get it, Pirates are the reason they use to justify things like DRM and again Piracy isnt cool, its just another "im special so i deserve everything without working" stupid feeling thats infected people these days, your not special, you dont deserve it just because mommy called you special, either pay for it, or dont play it, ya know... the fair way of life? you dont expect to watch TV without paying for Cable why do you justify free gaming?
User avatar #60 to #11 - Maroon ONLINE (03/10/2013) [-]
I basically use pirating to test out games. Games I like, I will buy like Saints Row 3 and Fallout 3 (I actually bought it 2 times, for console and PC). Other games, I will play for 20 minutes and think "holy fucking shit, I'm so glad I didn't waste 60 dollars on this bullshit". That's pretty much why I've stopped pre-ordering games. Learned that fucking lesson with War-Z, it looked so promising I ordered the super-special-whatever pack and it ended up being a buggy, hacker filled nightmare and the devs just shit on all the users.
#12 to #11 - photonmik (03/09/2013) [-]
Oh I get it, you have no idea. And people like you accept DRM like you accept governing sticks up your ass..
#14 to #12 - winglit (03/09/2013) [-]
Except i hate DRM and blame pirates (and rightfully so) for allowing big corporations to justify always on DRM and the like to stop piracy... you really think that i like being stuck online in games? are you fucking retarded? did you even READ my comments? i hate DRM and I hate piracy, because its damaging to the industry i love so much, IM a GAMER not some spoiled brat get it? got it? GOOD! :D
#15 to #14 - photonmik (03/09/2013) [-]
Then you should blame the corps.

I don't read your stupid shit, no..

Also, you know that the corporations are ruining the industry you love... "Gamer"
#16 to #15 - winglit (03/09/2013) [-]
I blame both sides, Pirates for being stupid little shits who justify their actions because "the corporation is bad wah ill pirate thatll show em" and the corporations for thinking "well always on DRM then thatll stop the pirates!" its similar to the war on terror, our government does stupid shit in order to beat the terrorists and the terrorists think that hurting the Innocent will show em, in the end the only ones really hurt are the ones not involved in the first place, with gaming DRM becoming more strict in order to fight a battle against useless self centered Twats, oh and heres an idea, if you dont like a corporations business model, DONT BUY FROM THEM, dont play the fucking game either, if you pirate it that just tells them "i like your game but i also dont like paying for things" it doesnt send any kind of message, if you want the industry to change, dont buy from the people you dont like, AND DONT PIRATE, you greedy motherfucker, i dont purchase EA games, Or games from Sega, and guess what? i dont play them either, because i dont want them to feel like they can pull this shit, try not being such a spoiled kid ok? or watch the gaming industry burn.
User avatar #63 to #16 - Maroon ONLINE (03/10/2013) [-]
He's right in one thing though, it is the corps ruining games. Instead of focusing on making good material that people will pay for and enjoy, they are busy coming up with ways to extort as much money as possible from a single game and at the same time trying to push out as many games as possible so they skimp on quality and heap on the bullshit.
#19 to #16 - photonmik (03/09/2013) [-]
You have no idea what you are talking about.
A few people not buying their stuff won't change anything.
Piracy also forwards progress, but I guess you don't know anything about that at all.
Since all you are capable of doing is trying to take shots at me, even though I don't really care about your opinion. If you feel you are such a saint. Good for you.

I'm not even spoiled.
I work 9-10 hours a day Mon-Fri. Probably 100% more than you.

#20 to #19 - winglit (03/09/2013) [-]
I have a full time job actually, and you really think that being entitled and pirating games from companies makes a difference? and maybe me not buying a game wont make a difference, but at the very least i stand up for what i think is right, you really feel like pirating shows them anything? and as for you not caring you obviously do as you keep replying, im defending what i feel is right so again im happy to see all the pirates who are rushing to defend themselves, your not some hero to the industry, your a little kid taking things and making excuses
#21 to #20 - photonmik (03/10/2013) [-]
So do I, freedom of information. I have integrity enough to buy games I enjoy. When Ubisoft lifted their sick DRM of 2070, I bought it.
#23 to #21 - winglit (03/10/2013) [-]
If you pirate games you dont tell a company theyre being dicks, you simply show them your a pirate, if you purchase the game later down the line that doesnt make it ok, you played it already, the reason games go down in price is because your paying for the privilege of playing early, and just buying some of the games you pirate doesnt make it alright, you're a child, nothing more nothing less, do as you please but just remember, if you dont pay, then what the fuck gives you the right to play? youre not special by birthright, and just because you have a job doesn't mean youre responsible and it doesnt make piracy ok, say what you will but you've proven my point, you're so desperate to defend your piracy. youre a self centered little kid, you dont know that the universe doesn't revolve around you because mama said it did... bye kid, hope one day you realize that piracy isnt helpful to the industry, its just a child justifying childish things to himself, heres hoping people stop this stupid shit and are more responsible with their gaming, but thats a dream i fear will die in time, best of luck to you, im going to bed.
User avatar #42 to #23 - billybong (03/10/2013) [-]
Piracy kills developers. This is a fact that cannot be changed, no matter how you look at it.

BUT

If DRM prevents you (a paying customer) from playing the game, then it shouldn't be there in the first place.

But if the pirated game actually works better than the one with the included DRM, then has the dev really earned their money? someone else needed to spend their own time to fix it to make the game playable

DRM can be good, Take steam for Example. I like their DRM, anti cheat, anti Piracy, you can redownload your games at any time, and most you can play offline once you play the game and authenticate online.

That's good DRM in my opinion, it works. Sure hackers can get around it these days, but because of it's benefits, you are very much encouraged to buy these steam games and you get many benefits from doing so... particularly valve's games.

that being said....I'm not saint, I'll pirate some games, but I've also got 204 games attached to my steam account as well as plenty of other legal games (none from origin because of their DRM)

#523 to #42 - anonymous (03/10/2013) [-]
drm has never inconvenienced me

maybe you're all entitled little shits?
User avatar #541 to #523 - billybong (03/11/2013) [-]
Sounds like youve never tried to log into origin or games for windows live or played any recent blizzard game
User avatar #56 to #42 - taintedangel (03/10/2013) [-]
Also add to the fact that steam sells games for very cheap. Being inexpensive is the biggest factor to anti-piracy.

"Oh, this really cool game that's been out for a year or two that I didn't get to play yet in now only $15? Sweet."
#45 to #42 - winglit (03/10/2013) [-]
Look what im saying is that piracy isnt justified simply because a game has shitty DRM, THAT SAID i wouldnt buy a game with DRM, its like saying its robinhood syndrome, no matter how you slice it your taking something not yours, if you dont like what they do dont buy it, simple as that, but piracy no matter the case isnt something you brag about doing, if its your guilty pleasure fine, but dont try and pretend its helpful to the industry
User avatar #53 to #45 - weinerdick ONLINE (03/10/2013) [-]
Well, with your argument seemingly over, I just wanna toss this little thing in
EA don't deserve money. They are a shit company, with shit policies.
So, pirate as many EA games as possible until they finally take the lesson to heart and stop being fucksticks, or they go bankrupt. Win win.
#525 to #53 - anonymous (03/10/2013) [-]
Yea, that's done plenty to stop them and reduces the amount of DRM, doesn't it? Have you even been paying attention to history?
User avatar #59 to #53 - billybong (03/10/2013) [-]
for EA specifically, I agree.... I don't even need to explain why. we all know
User avatar #47 to #45 - billybong (03/10/2013) [-]
so... sounds like EA's top priority should be working DRM if they want to sell shit

till then, if their DRM doesn't work, neither will my wallet...

I shower before bed, and plan to go to sleep in just a moment but figured id take a look, and yeah EA is a shit company, which is why i dont buy their games, but pirating doesnt send the right kind of message thats what im trying to get across but everyone is so caught up in feeling like robinhood they immediately jump to defend the action of piracy when its nothing grander than not wanting to pay for something, you arent trying to send a message by pirating, you just dont want to pay for something, simple as that... unless of course your supplying these pirated games to orphans robinhood style in which case fine continue
User avatar #74 to #58 - billybong (03/10/2013) [-]
I was only joshing about the sleep thing :P (enjoy it whenever you get there)

But try to think about it from someone else's point of view who does still want to enjoy the game.

There isn't really any way other than piracy that you can say "I don't like something about you (or your company) so I won't pay for the product, but the product is still desirable"

You could write a letter I guess... saying you won't buy the game... Sif EA will care care

If EA can recognize that their games can be enjoyable, desirable, and playable and if they are all of those, people will pay what the product is worth. That's how the game industry existed before DRM and that's what the community wants again.

We don't mind expansions, that are about 1/2 the price of the original game and give about 50% more content, but we hate DLC that costs 5-10% of the original price that simply adds features taken out of the original release. (not all DLC is like this, but too much is)

Not all pirates are just cheapskates, some of us just don't like being duped.

I own legit copies of, the original sims, original C&C series (everything before RA3), Wolf 3d, all of the Quakes and Dooms. Every single one of them could have been pirated easily at the time but wasn't (because you only needed an original copy, a keygen and a nocd to crack those games). They were all paid for at the time of release, not even on sale...I haven't mentioned any games I picked up cheap after their release (like Unreal Tournement, or either of the Soldier of fortunes)
User avatar #70 to #58 - weinerdick ONLINE (03/10/2013) [-]
I don't like pirating.
Too risky for my taste.
But if you have to, there's no better company to do it from than EA
