Ain't nothing wrong with a bit of faith, guy.
No reason to be a dick about it.

That's just rude as hell.

I have to agree.

Maybe it is a question of taste but jokes like this make me sick. Not because it touches religion or other topics, but because the fun part is the showing off of retardeness.

Jokes of the type of "hurr durr 1 out of 100 means that you have to try 99 times and the 100th will be the one" or other just plain dumb statements like this one. I'm an atheist and even I can understand what the religious guy on the joke meant. You can be as atheist as you want but if you live on the north-west-middle of planet earth you have to know and understand how christianity works, since it has been here for 2000 years.

When I see stuff like this I feel the need to explain that by "the preayers of my family are keeping me alive" he meant that what is happening now is God answering the prayers of his family, meaning that they found the best doctor that keeps him alive because he wanted so... I don't even know how dumb you must be not to understand that and not to understand that christinans believen in desteny.

Once again, I'm agnostic / atheist myself, but I get really mad when people are not capable of understanding the basics of mythology...

Honestly, I am of the opinion that "Friends who wanna remain friends, do not discuss religion nor politics"

It's taboo, in many places, tbh. It's also rude as hell. And I agree with you on all accounts. If you're curious as to my opinion, I somewhat laid it out on Comment 31 dawg. It's in this thread, somewhere.

Dont get my wrong, i really dont care if people are religious. Its like homosexuality. If it makes you happy and doesnt hurt others do what you want. be happy

But Multiple studies have proven that prayer is bad for people if you tell them you're praying for them.

And does nothing if you dont tell them you are praying for them.

For people who are told they are being prayed for are more likely to have complications during or after the surgery/treatment and are more likely to die than those who are not prayed for.

They think it is because people are like, "Oh **** , my condition is so bad they have turned to prayer to save me as an act of god is needed to save me" kinda thing, so they thing they are less likely to survive and so are, like the opposite of a placebo, fogotten what they are called.

In my own experience that isn't true at all. It may be more that they feel like they don't need to try since god will help them and when he doesn't, they kick the bucket up to heaven.

Or... Christians are just praying to the wrong God.

My mother has Cancer. I'm not religious at all.

I agree with you, it's silly to believe that prayer is the only thing keeping someone alive. However, it's generally a good tool to lift spirits (Especially when my family is orthodox as **** )

Personally, I'm just spiritualistic/Realistic. I have bigger problems to worry about than science vs religion. Like. I dunno. My job and college, bills and **** , that sorta thing.

I used to be like. Ultra super duper liberal when I was 16, like ultra atheistic and rebellious and **** , I tried learning all I could about science. And then I grew the **** up and realized it's an answerless question, if there's anyone looking out for us or not.

Sure, you can answer yes, or no, and you may actually believe either or, and in your mind, what you believe is true. It's quite ingenious really, must be entertaining as hell to whoever proposed the question, to watch humanity debate, fight, and die, over these sorts of questions..

Anyway. Point is, out of respect for the family, and to keep them all in good spirits, I generally light a candle at church for them. But it's more of a cultural thing, imo.

tl;dr A little faith is alright, but you shouldn't rely on it.

It could obviously help some people who want to be prayed for as they know they are loved by their family etc and just makes them feel better etc.

All the best to your Mother. My Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer when I was 3-4 and was given a 0% chance of survival. But I'm 21 now and shes alive today and has had two more types of cancer since but is still standing strong and is perfectly healthy now =).

All the best.

She was even advised not to take the Chemotherapy because it wasnt worth it because she had no chance and she should just have a better rest of her life. But her strong will kept her alive.
User avatar #45 to #44 - alfjnn ONLINE (03/10/2013) [-]
That actually happens quite often.
A lot of the time, they think the worst, My mom had like a 20% Chance of survival, and she's out of the hospital now, walking about, going through chemo.

She seems just find, and thanks for the wishes, man, it's appreciated :D

There are also studies wich prove when people say "multiple studies have proven ", automatically will make their arguments look more powerful. But not any truer.

Well here is one for you to read if you so wish to.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060403133554.htm

And most often when people try to belittle turns of phrase in a comment they are just against what the comment says and trying to talk **** about something for no reason other than they dissagree with it.

Even if its true or not.

This looks legit and such but.. how come there's no placebo effect?
