If you got a GBA or DS, buy the GBA version. It's the same thing except the graphics look a little less baby drawn.

I have a GBA Yoshy Island, but it's not the original one... I think it's the 4th or so. (is it so much worse?)

The best is the snes original, the sound, big screen, less lag, better controller make it the best.

Then the sequel for DS is a very good game, but not as good as the original.

Yoshis story for n64 was a great fun game, but a bit short, and with a patchwork graphic style and no baby mario.

The GBA remake was good but lacked the affirmentioned snes capabilities, making it not as good.

Took me a while to figure out what this was.

from that standpoint I would say evolutionary wise it would be unwise if one of their abilities is to use eggs as a weapon it would be a bad idea to not need to fertilize eggs
