My History teacher makes fun of this one kid because he used to go to some podunk, small ass town whose schools only went up to 8th grade. This is basically how everyday goes in there.

It really depends on the teacher. At my school there are two or three teachers who always do this kind of stuff and never get in trouble cause they are generally nice guys, however there was one substitute who was a total dick and he called a student some name (i forget what) and no one has seen him since that day

No. That is misuse of power. I had a teacher in high school who joked with his students a lot and he called a kid a faggot once and he almost got fired because the kid was a closet homosexual. There were massive amounts of apologies and what not but just because it was a joke and the the students were used to it, didn't mean it was ok.

But see, the student always has the right to tell the teacher about things they're sensitive about, and the teacher probably won't mention them.

If he was trying to convey it, he probably did a very poor job. Also, that's an assumption, not a fact. I guess you can't change people, but even the most ignorant of them know that a teacher is there to build you up, and is willing to change just about anything to make you feel more comfortable in the classroom.

I think it's safe to say that the high majority of kids know that they can talk to their teachers about any discomfort they're feeling. I believe it's pretty bitchy to skip straight from the teacher to the principal in order to get him in trouble.

I had a couple asshole teachers that wouldn't let up when I talked to them. Once a teacher took away my psp, this was when they were relatively new and expensive and I had saved up a long time for it. When I got it back it wouldn't turn on and the screen was fucked. When to the principal about it and absolutely nothing happened. I got no compensation, not even an apology. He only started treating me worse.

If he broke it, he should pay for it, but if you went to the principal, I simply find it hard to believe that he did nothing to help you.

I think my principal was close with this specific teacher. And yes, I agree its okay he took it away in the first place. (He was making an example of me) I just wasn't pleased with its condition upon return.

That's something to take up with an itemsistrator beyond your school. Getting pissed about it doesn't do anything, if the local officials won't help, go above and beyond.

Well its been years, and being from a small town high school there wasn't anywhere to go. Plus I don't know how the principal and teacher would have treated me if I had affected their jobs. I didn't drop it until I graduated high school. By the end they just told me I had no proof. My word against theirs. There are always shitty people, and sometimes they win. Thats moral I drew from the story.

No, you cannot assume all teachers are like that. But you can assume that there are some cases when talking to the teacher isnt an option and you have to go over his head. In my case this didn't work but it might in others.

We once had a Math professor constantly attack any students in the room who were in the military stating they are idiots - even if it was the only way they could pay for college. This teacher would go out of their way to attack anyone enlisted. A student sued and it got dismissed. The teacher still teaches there and still attacks current military students and vets.

I stated my opinion and I said it might not be exactly valid, and while I agree all that is completely unprofessional and grounds for termination, it's not a big deal in the eyes of society.
