that and they made it more mainstream because many Americans were not able to understand the jokes so they dumber the whole show down and made less geeky or nerdy references and more pop culture references to make it more appealing to a wider audience while pretty much giving the finger to the original intended audience.

The show wasn't clever in the first place. They explained every joke and never used advanced ones. The original intended audience was never actual nerds - otherwise it never would have gotten famous. It's just another t.v. show about "nerds" intended to make you feel like you're "smart" for understanding the obvious "nerd" jokes.

Normally, I'd agree, but with the Big Bang Theory they've essentially "progressed" enough to abandon the characters. It would be like if Barney Stinson stayed with Robin in HIMYM, he would just lose his awesomeness.

That's because the dialogue is written around it, you completely destroy the pacing the show has and the entire script would have to be removed.

whether its a laugh track or not, they base so much of the show's writing around that pause for laughter that it becomes unwatchable.
Any kind of smart writing goes out the window when a show reminds you when to laugh, it is mindless and a sign of a poor quality show.
