I've been thinking about this sort of thing for a while and this is what I've come to.
(Its not really reincarnation, since reincarnation seems to be dependent on an idea of a soul or mind carrying over, but I don't have a reason to think that kind of phenomenon could happen. This is a sort of continuation or something like that.)
It seems to me that we are all small pieces of the Universe living and viewing itself in our own perspectives, but when we die, those pieces break down and become apart of other pieces (both living and non-living) in the Universe, which means that consciousness could happen countless times where ever conscious life is possible as long as the Universe remains the way that it has, and if it is true that there are other Universes and that they pop in and out like bubbles all the time then maybe existence and life are always a possibility.

Makes sense to me.

You should read up more about Transcendentalism. It follows the same sort of belief that all people are a member of one conscious and that our lives are just our respective experiences through our physical senses.
Once we die and our physical senses stops functioning, our sub-conscious minds return us to the pool to be redistributed to new forms.
Similarly, they believe when you return to the pool, your mind gets broken down and your conscious is never likely to meet the same parts again as it's akin to pouring a cup of water into an ocean, stirring it for a week, then pulling another cup out.
Sometimes it's not even a cup, sometimes it's only a thimble full in the case of creatures that require less concious power like animals or plants.

That sounds nice, but it seems really vague, I don't really have evidence or a reason to believe in a "pool" or that there is a central consciousness that everyone stems from.
What I was talking about was more literal, I see consciousness as a phenomenon of the brain, which in itself is a phenomenon of life, which is a phenomenon of matter and so on. It all trails back to the universe, and we are apart of it.
Simple as that.

>Cells are little computers, that are not aware of themselves
>They all joined form one awareness, the human conciousness

Guys, what if.. guys, seriously... what if we are like... cells... and the Earth... has like it's own superior mind and conciousness. Seriously guys... like, a thinking Earth like all alone in the solar system, and we can't see it or imagine it, because we are like cells to the Earth...

That's actually pretty ******* crazy to think about. Planets being aware, and possibly communicating.

Debate aside, you can't possibly notice the mind first unless you have x-ray vision.

If you believe in reincarnation then we could even just be the same soul, reborn endlessly, living each and every life.

The Pope...

We could be the same person.

#84 to #79 - detectivejewhat (03/08/2013) [-]
There's a post on here i've seen a couple of times that explores that possibility. I'm going to try and find it.
#87 to #84 - tomthehippie (03/08/2013) [-]
There is also a (rather crazy) philosophy that states that you (being the person believing this idea) are the only person in existence, and that not only are you the only one who actually exists, but you are in fact the creator/god of this existence.

How ever, while you are the creator being, you are not in control of the act of creation, your subconscious is.

I think its called Sopolism, or something like that.
#91 to #87 - detectivejewhat (03/08/2013) [-]
That's pretty cool. Sounds like something i'd be interested in learning more about. Have a thumb sir.

Yeah, its a really crazy philosophy that basically states that everything around you is merely a thought of yours. So if you kill someone, boo hoo, there are only countless more thoughts where that one came from.
