Not true. Take our closest star, Proxima Centauri, for example, A star 4.25 light years away, meaning the light by definition of a light year, has taken 4.25 years to reach us. As the star is currently 4.85*10^9 years old, and has a main sequence life of another 4*10^12 years, so you can wish upon it for another few trillion years before it even goes into its next stage
