Last one just seems like common sense

Why do atheists even care? There's no reason for you to be concerned with this kind of thing in the slightest.

It's like me going and arguing with an airline pilot about proper terminology usage during the pre-flight checklist.

Even if I do know what I'm talking about, which only barely do, it's still not my place to talk about. Plus it makes me kind of an asshat.

These are rules by the Mosaic law. After Jesus died, the Mosaic law wasn't needed anymore. These rules were for the Israelites, so they would be recognized as God nation.

Well to those who say the Old Testament should be ignored and that only the New Testament is to be acknowledged: I'm not sure where you learned that, but no. Also, Leviticus is largely for the purpose of health or safety. The hair was so that Jews would be able to identify each other on sight, and as far as pork, shellfish, and the other foods, those are all unclean or unhealthy food. It doesn't have much to do with morality. Laying with another man would be considered unclean and unhealthy. This is still considered something you should not do because of the "Every seed is sacred" point in the Bible. I will say this, though, even though I'm a Catholic, I think Same Sex Unions should be allowed in the US. If "Marriage" is a religious union between a man and a woman, then all weddings should be called Unions, legally. The legal term should not be marriage anymore, and this term should only be additionally applied to religious ceremonies as a personal, private thing. Also, TL;DR

For everyone arguing the "Old vs New" Testiment issue.
Matthew 5:18 "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
Everything God has said, still applies, for ever.

Well, to be fair, while Jesus clearly said that he would uphold Old Testament laws, Paul basically stated that you can ignore the laws as long as you believe in God. The Jewish laws were not abolished among early Christians until Paul abolished them (Though most Christians for some reason still choose to pick certain Old Testament laws to follow and others to ignore). In fact, Paul had an argument with Peter (who was the "rock" chosen by Jesus on which his church was to be built), because Peter followed Jewish customs (probably like Jesus did himself).

I think 99.9% of all Christians don't even realize that they are essentially following the teachings of Paul, not the teachings of Jesus.

actually, that last one is pretty sound advice.

SO let me get this straight...
Christians woke up one day and said... " hang on a sec, i really dig some of these things... i mean lobster and prawns rock... bugger it, we shall write a new book sorta similar but allowing us to do some of the stuff we like. All the things we dont like we shall leave in."
Is that how it went down? If you have a set of rules you cant just change them because you wanto shave or eat bacon but at the same time hide from your own fears behind a god.

It can be seen at the start of the New Covenant at Matthew 27: 50-51a. When Jesus cried out one last time and gave up his spirit it was reported that at the same time the Veil in the Jewish temple that divided the Holy of Holies was ripped apart. The veil was 60 feet tall and over 4 inches thick and was made so that horses tied to each end couldn't pull it apart (1 Kings 6: 2)There were hundreds of accounts from the Jews, Roman soldiers, and other assorted people that this divider could be heard being torn all throughout Jerusalem. This was showing God no longer was honoring the old covenant between himself and mankind and was leaving his place. More importantly he opened up the Holy of Holies to mankind, not just the few Jewish priests. By removing the old covenant, the old rules were removed too, and Jesus set up a new covenant with new rules (Hebrews 8: 13).

Alright, alright, alright, let's sort this shit out.
This is what I gathered from the New International version of the Bible.

Leviticus 19:27
''Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.''

Ephesians 5:4
''Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.''

Leviticus 19:16
''Do not go about spreading slander among your people.''

Notice these are all Old Testament laws, meant for the Israelites.
