A game with good art will last for years. Shit, Wind Waker was made ten years ago and it it'd be passable if they released its original version today. Though for some reason, they're rereleasing it with a more modern graphics engine on the Wii U. Personally, I'd rather see that treatment with Majora's Mask, but whatever.

I tend to agree with you on this. As time goes on, I think it will become less about who can fit the most polygons on a screen and more about the presentation. I think Okami is one of the nicest looking games I've ever seen. We might also see a shift back towards quality storytelling once we plateau on graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Crysis 3 and the demos of Unreal Engine 4 are impressive, but progress is really slowing down. It might be more effective for software developers to make the most of what we have until there is a big hardware leap.

"but a billion times more fun to look at than CoD or Battlefield"

I could name you from the top of my head probably 10 games that look a lot better (and actually have ART in their graphics) than those 2. Seriously, BF3 may look good for the size of its maps, but that's it.

It was merely an example.

Mirror's Edge, there's another one.

Frankly I liked... no, LOVED Assassin's Creed: Revelations for its depiction of Istanbul/Constantinopole.
Granted, Firenze from AC2 will always be another favorite, so much better than the blue-ish Venezia (although the Doge's Palace is MMMMMotherfuckingly beautiful) or Toscana.
And... I cannot describe the HUGE feels that I got when I first played The Witcher 2 on my upgraded PC, with most of graphic details to the max. God-DAMN!
I also heard that Skyrim recently got a graphics mod that really makes it look sweet.

But hey, I also enjoyed a lot the semi-cartoonish looks from Brutal Legend (really nice vistas and imagination in Level Design & Level Art, fucking awesome), so...
