Well they not use them in high poly, for example: name any character you like of this generation and in the game may look bad of need more polygons but when that char was created they made a high poly model and for the game use a low poly model, added texture with shadows, folds if he/she is wearring clothes and other stuff, then with a second texture called normals, they added the "depth" in the folds, holes or buttons.
So what you are seeing is just a low poly model with effects.
Gears of war, halo, crysis, skyrim and other games that you may think that have a lot of polygons are just low poly model with good textures.

world of tanks fails to do this and just whips straight motherfucking 512 mb ram from your graphics card to create all them models. even on low, all they do is lower the graphics- not the polygons by a whole lot.
this game sucks my computers dick more than league of legends, which should do worse...
