It feels like there is some information missing here. Now anyone who is a hunter should know that hunting on private land without the owner's permission or hunting on national parks is illegal. Drawing an animal off of lands that are illegal to hunt on is perfectly legal. Recently, the wolf population around Yellowstone have risen and they have become nuisance animals and as such, the United States has taken them off the endangered species list.
So, they are legal to hunt, and what he did is by no means illegal or improper of a hunter. Yes, they are beautiful creatures and all wildlife should be treated with respect. However, nuisance animals are taken very seriously because they can do so much damage to the environment and it is the responsibility of the hunter to follow the proper guidelines when it comes to the bag limit, size limit, and season.
it doesn't matter if its legal or not, its a straight pussy move and completely immoral. the dude doesn't have the skill to hunt unprotected, wild wolfs so he bates one out of protected grounds so he can mount it on his wall and brag to his red neck friends.
you just completely ignored his comment didnt you? the wolf is no longer under protected status. the wolfs on yellowstone are just as wild as those on it
ethics and laws are 2 totally differnet thing.
an ethical hunter would not exploit a moms nature for helping the young. we would out smart the wolf... finding out where it crosses into the open range, hiding in the bushed with sent lockETC.
im from montana... where all thsi wolf **** is happining. i have no peoblem with the wolves. to the people saying the wolves are going after the local cattle and ****... sure tehy might take down a calf or 2... but a LOT of thows ranchers in the golden triangle are ******* MEGA rich. they cna deal with 2 losses to their 700 head.
Well firstly, hunters exploit animals in every way so we can kill them. Mating calls, animal scent, salt licks. We draw animals out into the open to hunt them.
Now, the post did not say that the wolf had pups, only that it responded to the recorded call of a wolf pup. It is not ethically wrong to kill an animal who responds to the call of its kind's young, almost all kinds of animals do this.
Well while agree that losing only 2 cattle out of 700 doesn't seem like a big deal to those who don't own cattle, those ranchers are still having to deal with losing product. In Florida, hogs are such a problem that for the majority of the lands, there are no bag, size, age, gender, or season restrictions. They simply destroy fields and it hurts the farmers.
wolfs =/= hogs
hogs are WAY worse.
my family farms and ranches over by fort peck lake in the NE corner of montana.... i know how it sucks to lose a calf..usually to cold as **** weather.
when i hunt... i walk around with my 1935 moisen nagunt.. open sights, wearing blaze orange. no sent lock, no calls, no traps, no salt lick. i dont draw **** out. the most we do is wahts called a deer drive. where people infront of you make a lot of nosie and walk twords you. your "posted up" and try to shoot runnign deer... IF they decide to not veir left or right to early and miss you completly.
ethics vary from person to person. idk if you hunt... or even live around this whole wolf thing... but its not as bad as tehy make it seam.
Yeah, I hunt. Archery and shotgun with dogs. While we don't use licks or traps we do use calls and masking spray and, of course, neon orange vests.
respect given. i wnat to try muzzle loading for a challange.. and im fairly decent with a bow... but it still ahs to be the hardest ******* thing. espcally where i live. miles of flat open land. no cover.
idk dude... the way it sounds.. he sat 150 yards off from hte protected fence with a call.. anbd as soon as it jumped hte fence, blam. not cool
Bow hunting is not too difficult it is all about timing and patience. One needs to get the cleanest shot possible with an arrow, so into the neck, heart, lungs, etc. I am not for making an animal suffer when I hunt, the quicker it dies, the better.
I can understand why people would disapprove of what he did, but the way I see it is, if this is an animal that has free reign to travel from protected land to unprotected land, calling it over is not unethical to me. What is unethical is the full knowing killing of a mother animal while it still has young. That is what season restriction is for. But, just imagine a 12 point buck that jumped onto someone's property, if you could call it back onto unprotected land, would you?
