Yeah, I call bull on that. You can have the dominant dark hair genes and a set of recessive blue eyes.

While brown-brown is way more common, I've seen a lot of dark-haired blue-eyed people.

There's no such thing. Black hair is just a very dark brown. The color is simply how much melanin you body makes. More of the pigment - darker color. Since the gene for more melanin is dominant, dark hair and eyes are more common than black hair and blue eyes. There's also the fact that But the genes does not only code for how MUCH of the pigments is made, but where exactly it is. For that reason a lot of melanin can be made for your hair because of one gene, but the one that controls your eye color can make your eyes bright blue.
