Actually, the story is that a deranged 'fan' wanted his autograph, so when he turned around, he was shot and died three hours later.

The 'fan' was apparently insane, believing that HE was the real John Lennon, and he needed to kill the imopster John.

I hope this clears things up. And yes, I am a nerd for the Beatles.

In the interview with Mark David Chapman ( the man who shot him) he said he waited out side all day and got the autograph and john looked at him and said "is that all you want?" and he nodded so john continued to his limo with Yoko. Mark waited outside for about 5 more hours until John came back, Yoko got out the car first and was a few feet in front of john and while they walked under the dark archway of the building they live in Yoko saw Mark and mark nodded but she didnt nod back, when they got a few steps ahead mark stepped out got into a combat stance and fired 5 shots at John 3 of them landed i think Yoko ran into the doorway and John crawled into the reception of the building and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. After he shot John, Mark just stood there with his gun by his side and the door man came over and shook the gun out of his hand while crying "Do you know what you've just done? Get out of here".

Thats like a "brief" summary of what i saw anyway haha I am also a Beatles nerd.

Mark also thought that by killing Lennon he could gain his fame. :)
