It isn't relevant to be able to speak more than English in America, it might sound stuck up but it's true. We're a very large country that has two neighbors, Mexico, that you're only actually close to if you live in like 5 of 50 states and Canada which is also English speaking. As apposed to Europe where it is very relevant to speak a few languages because your country is generally quite small and surrounded by 3 or 4 other countries that speak a different language then your own, yes I'm sure Europeans are better off for it but it's not because Americans are all stupid and fat it's mainly just geography.

I get what you're saying but it isn't really as applicable. As you may, or may not, know the country we know today as The United States of America was started by colonies established by English countrymen. That is why America is constantly portrayed as a "son" of England, as the seed of the country was planted by England. It wouldn't work with America in the place of England and China in the place of America because China was already very much a country of its own. Started internally by striking territorial borders and uniting as one country. Economically speaking it could be loosely true as China's modern wealth has been accrued by the export of manufactured goods and labor to America and the purchasing of credit debt from America, but the visual metaphor would be mostly lost and confusing.

Yeah but these statistics are bullshit and I am not even an Americafag or even from an English speaking country (East-Europe baby).

Firstly, and most importantly, most countries like the Netherlands and Sweden speak English as their second language. So that means you already have 2 languages down.

Second of all, Dutch and German language (and don't crucify me here, I am just talking about the language) is fairly similar, so it is easy for the Dutch to learn German and vice versa (at least much easier compared to a total outsider). Furthermore, the Dutch have languages within their state like Frisian, so the statistics go even more down the drain.

This also goes for the Scandinavian languages. They are not as similar as Dutch and German but already have a common ground on which they can easily built their way to learning the other Scandinavian languages.

I don't even know why I am talking about this, it just generally annoyed me that this statistic is supposed to show off intelligence of some countries but is an actual BS. Following this statistic, than most of my countrymen and me speak Bosnian, Montenegrian, Serbian, Croatian, kinda Bulgarian and Slovenian etc. 5.5 up in this bitch.
