I have always been torn when it came to choosing between The Imperials and The Stormcloaks. I never took the time to look into the both sides properly so I tried to make a choice based on my experiences and what I hear. I know that it was the Imperials that unjustly put me on the chopping block (and I mean that literally). I also know that the Imperials support, or at least okay with, the Thalmor. Now I dont know about you guys, but I never met a Thalmor that IS'NT a douche-bag and to add to their douche factor, The Thalmor are against the worshiping of Talos and believe that its okay to imprison anyone who does so.
After all of this, It seemed like I should go with the stormcloaks. But then I hear about how overly-passionate the Stormcloaks are. They were causing trouble for the residential areas and they seem to be a bit racist towards any race that wasn't Nords. As I got further into the main storyline of Skyrim, I also find out that no matter how much Balgruff says they are neutral, Whiterun seemed to be Imperial territory since Ulfric wanted control of it so badly back in the meeting between General Tulius, Ulfric, and The Graybeards. The Stormcloaks seemed very destructive and I loved Whiterun like it was my home and I didnt want it to be changed. In the end, I stayed Neutral even when I finished the main story line and ignored the War completely. And then I accidentally erased my save file.
Now, I'm playing through this game again and Im hoping to do some things differently. Including choosing a side in the war. I was going to deal with it and choose to join the Stormcloaks. And then I read the comments on this post and now im not so sure again. So guys help me out and finally convince me which side to choose.
tl;dr version: Thalmors are Douche-bags. Stormcloaks are Crazy. I am an indecisive Dragonborn. So Imperials or Stormcloaks?

Stormcloaks as a whole are awesome, but Ulfric is a hypocritical son of a bitch .He treated the Forsworn much worse than the Empire treated the Nords in Skyrim. They only ever wanted there homeland, just as the Nords did.

Out of all the factions, the one with the noblest cause is the Forsworn
User avatar #49 to #47 - tropius (02/28/2013) [-]
The Forsworn and Falmer are both a huge group of douchebags to the Dohvakiin, but they really do have reason for hating outsiders. The Forsworn were kicked out of their own Hold, and the Falmer were enslaved for centuries.

**** them all! really who needs a faction, when you can cuddle up to Lydia, reoow

I really hate the way elves are done in this game. Particularly the wood elves. I don't actually hate it though as it does make a damn good story.

They're pretty much victims of the Aldmeri Dominion and Thalmor, however they're always thrown into the same batch as them. It kinda sucks cause I play as a Wood Elf

Kill them both: Skyrim belongs to the people.

The Imperials may have bent under the stress. But they are also dimming a rebellion and fending off the gods them selves.

I support their cause, because I know that if the Stormcloaks were to have won, then they wouldn't have the means to take on the Thalmer, let alone any of the other problems with that "God-forsaken land".

The Stormcloaks are corrupt, fighting out of arrogance and hiding behind the false hope of worshiping a god that is only their own. They're tunnel-visioned bigots, and it makes me sick. Talos will always be my god, but my god would never put hate in the hearts of us Nords.

If glory to the Empire means glory to Skyrim. Then so be it.

Everyone knows that Dark Elves run the banks, only the Stormcloaks will repudiate the Whitegold- Concordat and crush the godless Thalmor.

Heil Ulfric!

I really can't join the stormcloaks after find Ulfrics Dossier in the Thalmor Embassy. Traitor the legion is one thing, Traitor to his own cause is where I draw the line.
User avatar #33 to #30 - dikslapping (02/28/2013) [-]
I thought I was the only guy who read that dossier. Yeah I always go for the Legion now, if my Skyrim still worked.
User avatar #29 - jamhamington (02/28/2013) [-]
they both have their dickish ways, the stormcloaks seem intent on staying peasant like, and the imperials main ******** comes from the fact that they are the aldmeri's little bitches now.
#26 - cumon (02/27/2013) [-]
I think the stormcloaks are right to fight for skyrims freedom from the imperials... they have there own country to rule, the only reason they really stay in skyrim is because there scared of those divine damned high elf, who just really want control of everything, like they call them selfs High Elfs... how cocky can you get.... i think they should make dovahkiin King of Skyrim and all the jarls and imperials join forces to take down the aldmeri dominion once and for all!!!!............................
< ALL HALE DOVAHKIIN, DRAGONBORN!!!
User avatar #35 to #26 - dikslapping (02/28/2013) [-]
Go to the Thalmor embassy and find the dossier on Ulfric. Learn who is screwing skyrim.
User avatar #27 to #26 - mvainer (02/28/2013) [-]
But having skyrim apart from the legion, which was forcefully allied with the A.dmeri Dominion, would make the Thalmor want to annex Skyrim as well; thus causing elves to invade and ruin everyone's day, even after there are a lot less stormcloak soldiers in Skyrim after the rebellion
User avatar #28 to #27 - cumon (02/28/2013) [-]
well not straight away... they will need to build up forces and they and get other country's that hate them too to fight aswell... if they get the imperials on there side... then thay can just acked like there in controll until there strong enough
User avatar #31 to #28 - darthblam (02/28/2013) [-]
I don't think you entirely understand the situation the Empire and Skyrim is in nor the politics of it all.
User avatar #57 to #31 - cumon (02/28/2013) [-]
well i just think that A) skyrim and its people should be free .B)aldmeri dominion and the legion should **** off and. C) skyrimshould have a strong king AKA Dovahkiin

User avatar #21 - galkawhm (02/27/2013) [-]
Other than the unfair trial at the beginning and the Thalmor, I didn't really see anything wrong with the Imperials. Stormcloaks are racist so that's a great big "no" in my book.
#18 - anonymous (02/27/2013) [-]
The Stormcloaks are a short term are a short term way to peace and happiness in Skyrim. Do you really think the Empire would be willing to help the Stormcloaks keep the Thalmor back or let alone defeat them after ousting them from Skyrim? I'm sorry but the Imperials are the smarter choice for the long run.

Many believe the Stormcloaks are racists, but that's not completely true. They don't hate outsiders because of their race, they hate them because of often not wanting to adapt to the Nord way of life or fighting for Skyrim. Just look at Nirayne as an example. She's says that it's the Dumner's own fault for living in the situation they do because of their pride and naivety.
"It was difficult at first (living in Windhelm). The Nords of this city are, at best, ********** of outsiders. But in time I made the right friends and proved myself useful enough that they don't give me trouble anymore. The Dunmer are too proud and naive to see the way things truly are, and so they continue to dwell in that slum." She's earned their trust because she has assimilated to their ways. She makes the Nords trust her by for example sharing concern for the Talos priest.

That being said, I do disagree about the way the Argonians and Dunmer's are being treated, but it's not about race, but ********* . I probably wouldn't liked having a German in my street if I lived in London during WWII (and he had just moved there). Not because of me hating Germans, but because I'm afraid that he might be a spy or something. Several times people were killed because they weren't careful enough when working with Germans during WWII.

And Ulfric welcomes every race into joining his faction, as long as they want to fight against the Empire and throw the Al Dominion back into the sea.
User avatar #48 to #15 - unworldlypath (02/28/2013) [-]
you have a point there, but ulfric wouldn't even let the argonians inside the city walls, how are they going to be respected if they aren't even allowed inside the walls?
#50 to #48 - finni (02/28/2013) [-]
Why they are outside the city walls, I don't know. It might be because there's no room in Windhelm yet because the Dunmers took over the Grey Quator. Still, I think they'd be welcomed at the Barracks bed if they were willing to take up a sword. If enough people joined, I think that even the Nords in Windhelm might demand that their conditions improve and the Jarl would have to answer, even if he is pretty busy with the war/rebuilding Skyrim and preparing for the Al Dominion's invasion.

The payment they get though, is because the Nords don't trust them, you can however, improve their payment by talking to that Thane who pays them. I did that and he agreed to higher their payment, but not for their sake, but because I had proven a friend to him and because I had proven myself to him, he trusted me and so trusted my request.

The Stormcloaks are all about proving yourself, if you do that, you can get far, but sitting there bitching about your condition is not gonna get you anywhere. Just like these Redguards
User avatar #55 to #50 - unworldlypath (02/28/2013) [-]
again, a valid point, but say ulfric wins and leaves a weakened empire, this leaves cyrodill and by extension skyrim vulnerable to attack by the dominion. if the empire won then the dominion would probably have a harder time attacking skyrim and cyrodill
User avatar #56 to #55 - finni (02/28/2013) [-]
If the Empire won, it just be back where they started. The Empire is weak and it's failing. A common argument from the Imperials is "What the Stormcloaks like to forget is that it's the Empire that's keeping the Dominion out of Tamrial" when the Empire is the REASON for the Dominion being there in the first place!!!

Skyrim is just as good leaving the damn Empire and do like Hammarfell, who managed to kick the Dominion out of their country. When they wanted to continue fighting, the Empire kicked them out of the Empire after centurions of being a part of it.

If Skyrim left, they would start preparing for war and the Nords would fight with all their strength for their mother/fatherland. Skyrim could also allay themselves with Hammarfell and help each other kick the Dominion out of entire Tamrial! Skyrim might perhaps even fight with the Empire if they'd recognize Skyrim's independence and allow it to remain free.

If Hammarfell can kick the Dominion out, so can the Nords!
User avatar #41 to #15 - dadukesta (02/28/2013) [-]
I know exactly what you mean. After completing the Stormcloak time line as a dunmer it was like being a black soldier fighting for the Union under command of a total rascist and finally being let free.
User avatar #13 - hauptishere (02/27/2013) [-]
Imperial Legion tries to execute me so I assassinated the Emperor. Now were even, so I go ahead and join the Legion. I'd join the rebellion but Ulfric is a douche.

The choice for me as a blond haired, blue eyed, slightly racist Scandinavian is rather obvious.

Make everyone non-estential via the console ( **** yeah, PC), slay everyone once i am done with their quests, and rule over a completely inhabitant-free Skyrim all by myself.
