detroit is rated one of the worst cities in the united states, the murder rate is #1 in canada, there are somethhing like 1500 serious crimes per every 10,000 people..

Wanna see a city with a good rep, but shitty conditions? Rockford, Illinois. It has like the 2nd highest murder rate in the country is filled with an unbelievably large number of douche bags. I lived there for two months before I had seen a gang fight in front of my apartment complex, packed my shit, and moved back to Chicago. My car was also hit TWICE in a two week period (hit and run) before I decided to rent one of the complex's garages. The guy working the drive-though at McD's also spit in EVERYTHING i ordered, and didn't even try to hide it. He spit on my fucking chicken nuggets man. Who does that? Who spits on another man's chicken nuggets?

Corruption is playing a huge part in creating some of that shit
Kwame Kilpatrick, the former mayor, is suspected of extortion, bribery, etc.
He was given one of the most diverse juries ever, which is bullshit because it's speculated that he paid off a lot of them

Two years ago, I played a football game at a Detroit high school
There were bars on the windows and we had to get a police escort in and out
Just goes to show, again, some parts are shit, some aren't

Also, let me use this space to say my view of the Detroit shit. Racists want to say that it's the black people in the city that use there nigger behavior to fuck up the city for white people. People who think like that don't understand the fact that those criminals are festering in an environment of poverty and desperation where people get kicked on to the street for not being able to pay their mortgage. The banks don't even sell the houses, just let them get like the one above and shit brings down the whole neighborhood property value and everyone loses money, stays poor and has nowhere to go. We could fix that whole problem with just a few demolition and industry investments, but it really is the racist system that's keeping them down.

downtown detroit is about 15 city blocks. the rest of the city is much larger than the downtown area.

Even past there the city doesn't look nearly as bad as the picture in the post. Like i said you really have to be on the outskirts of Detroit for it to look that bad.

well, now we're getting into what constitutes Detroit. Personal experience, when I lived in Wayne County, and had to go downtown for a marriage license, once you pass Southfield Freeway on Grand River, it's a night and day transformation. And that's a mere 1.5 miles from the courthouse. Look at Brightmore. That place is literally a shanty town at this point. And that used to be one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in all of Detroit. The whole thing went down hill when Detroit changed the rule about civil employees having to live within the city limits. As soon as they could leave, they did. and property values started to fall.

Shhhhhh don't use the J-O-B-S word in around people in Detroit...it offends them.

I'd like to agree with you, but as shown welfare doesn't work too well. Did you know in some states welfare gives more money than a first year teacher? What's the point of working if you can just sit on your ass and relax?
