Typical liberal pointing this one piece of information while leaving out that the tax rate in Australia is lower than in the States, as well as the fact that the cost of living in Australia is higher than the States, nearly a third to double as of Feb 2013. This simply means that due to inflation and other factors it seems as though you are paid more. When adjusted Australians are simply getting paid little more in value than Americans. For example at this min wage of 16.43 an hour, you can buy 5.4 loaves of bread Down Under compared to 7.5 loaves of bread in the States. Sit down, shut up, and come back when you know what your talking about.

16 dollars an hour doesn't get you shit in Australia. The cost of living is high to match that rate.

Raising the minimum wage doesn't mean shit if there aren't any jobs to be had. If Australia has a low unemployment rate, it isn't because of the minimum wage, it's despite it.

Oh look, someone named "marijanelover" has a political opinion. I'm sure he has quite a few valid points to make.

Because the minimum wage is the only factor in the unemployment rate, right?

Aand you ruined your point by making low minimum wage a "conservative" thing.

Australians don't have Mexicans though.
I deliver beer, and at a bar I found out
one of the workers just got laid off and
replaced by a Mexican willing to work
an entire day for $20 under the table.

Can people on FJ please stop posting stuff that they have no understanding of. If you have knew anything about economies, you would understand that different economies have different price in relation to other economies. Even though Australians earn more in relation to Americans, Australia is almost one and a half times or even two times more expensive than America

there is no correlation between unemployment and minimum wage, nor is there a correlation between unemployment and economic health. I could have 0% unemployment and everyone be making peanuts, and still poor; or I can have 100% unemployment and everyone lives like kings through selling off a countries natural resources and using foreign labour. etc.

Our population is nearly 350 million, their is much less. Their taxes are the lowest of an industrialized nation, ours are the highest. Like liberals, you ignore many facts and make many assumptions.

In canada minimum wage is set by the provincial not federal governments. wouldn't the same thing be done in Australia?

Laziness of people has nothing to do with it right?

Come on you've named one of MANY factors in this "problem" called unemployment. Just because these lazy assholes like to blame their government for their own unmotivated selves doesn't mean the government is 100% responsible for it.
