It feels like the more I understand about reality and my own position in this thing we call existence the more pointless everything we call life seems.

We live, we die. We're just machines aren't we? Existing. A random event, with no particular purpose. Happiness, emotion, meaning... are they tangible things or just delusion?

I think being happier would be a lot easier if I wasn't in such constant physical pain. These sort of thoughts are the least of my worries. Intelligence, I don't think it automatically equates to unhappiness, but I do think it opens up the doors. Most people seem to be content to live on nothing but emotion.

Life is a struggle, both for meaning and happiness. Some are lucky some less, I want to be happy. I'm not that smart really, but I'm smart enough to know this much.

I don't know why, but it seems like everyone has the idea that life is essentially meaningless and we all just live for our own happiness. Really? Because that's an awfully selfish view on life. I think that everyone's meaning in life should be to work toward a better future instead of just on themselves. We live in world full of corruption, famine, war, and pollution, and we're worried about our own emotions? No, and we're not nearly machines either, we are human beings. We improve, we share knowledge, we breathe, laugh, and love one another, and we have the ability to shape the world as we see fit. We have the capabilities to make this world a far more united and equal place, and to even extend our homes to beyond this planet in the near future. But with the things are going, the world is only going to become a far more darker place before it gets any better, so why waste my life thinking of only myself? Maybe if we all focused on making the world better for the future generations to come so they don't have to deal with all the senseless and unfair violence that plagues this world today, then who knows? Maybe we could make a difference.

You must not have any idea who I am.

I've plotted for years. My mastermind personality type isn't just for show. I've seriously thought about it; what would have to be done to change the course of human history. But I think you're forgetting humanity-it's full of fools who'd rather wage war and destroy.

How can I possibly sacrifice myself when I can't even keep the fruits of my own labor? As much as I've worried about everyone else my entire life, I've realized I need to think about me. If I don't I will perish. I refuse that.

If I ever become a great force, which is virtually impossible, I'd happily bend the world's destiny, but let's be real here: how much could I possible do? If my plans were to come to fruition... but such is improbable.

You're in a phase. You'll get over it when you get a little wiser.
User avatar #127 to #122 - infinitereaper (02/22/2013) [-]
There is no phase, just a change in understanding and experience. Being cut off from the enjoyable things in life will do that to you. Don't speak to me like a child, "enlightened" one.
User avatar #129 to #127 - awesomenessdefined (02/22/2013) [-]
Dude, everyone has a stupid 'reality has no purpose', 'life is meaningless when you think about it' phase. It's cool.

Also, a change in understanding and experience is what triggers the end of a phase.

It's not about phases dog. This is reality. It is utterly devoid of a point. Doesn't mean it can't be meaningful or fun to exist. I carry both worlds inside of me. But the pursuit of truth isn't delusion man.

You think you can even comprehend reality? You just experience it.
User avatar #215 to #214 - infinitereaper (02/22/2013) [-]
It's about thinking I can, its about wanting to.

I believe that after learning to look 100% objectively at existence and its many flaws, there's the optional step of learning to selectively and arbitrarily forget certain parts for the sake of happiness.
User avatar #30 to #29 - infinitereaper (02/22/2013) [-]
I don't want to forget. I'd rather obtain more and more knowledge. I only wish I could understand everything. All i know is that living beings pursue feeling. We want to feel, and mostly feel good. Even psychopaths, usually kill to feel the exhilaration in place of none existent emotions they can't feel.

Even if life is pointless I still think this reality is beautiful. It's just frustrating being so powerless and limited in this flesh bag of a body.
User avatar #33 to #30 - AquariusCyclone (02/22/2013) [-]
I see; even a pursuit of knowledge can be a pursuit of feeling, a surreal rush of something powerful.

Too long.

Didn't read.

So you're content with being ignorant and continuing to believe that the more you know about the universe the more pointless life seems when this guy just told you that if you read a single book it would change your opinion completely? Yeah go **** yourself.

Someone is rustled.

There are several points in awareness, probably. Human beings can live in delusion or illusion or be aware, but our awareness is limited. To be incapable of understanding everything that is is rather foreboding, but to know more would likely open up the doors to the grandeur of the universe.

I don't want to read the book because of the title, and I'm not much interested in the particular subject either.

Ignorance? Existence is ignorance. Not everyone needs to absorb information to derive it themselves. What's your damn problem anyway? It's usually the dog that barks that's guilty.
User avatar #135 to #134 - toosexyforyou (02/22/2013) [-]
One of my pet peeves is people who are content with being ignorant.

Well it's pretty obvious I'm not, but be careful what you tout. The great irony of ego is that we are often guilty of what we judge to begin with.

If I believe that something was a certain way and someone told me that reading something would prove to me that it's a different way. I would not continue telling anyone that I believed it still worked the way I thought until I read the different way.
User avatar #150 to #137 - infinitereaper (02/22/2013) [-]
i just don't want to read it!
User avatar #148 to #137 - infinitereaper (02/22/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure I've already covered those different ways. I'm looking at life through a kaleidoscope, I just pick whatever seems closest to the truth. The truth is just a bunch of connections after all.

We don't have to be the same
