Lol, it was technically not a glass shoe, it was a fur shoe. It was a mistranselation of the french word vairre, i think.

the slippers were actually made of squirrel fur, not glass. How you ask? it's a wrong use of the word verre (glass), and vair (squirrel fur). slippers made from "vair" could be viewed as the modern day equivalent of mink coat: highly expensive.
