Lets talk about some real numbers.
if we take out the programs like social security for the elderly (unless you think its unfair granma who worked her whole life gets a little money to not starve) and people with extremely serious disability (unless you think they should starve) percentage of people who get actual welfare is 4.1% americans.
Out of that, 5.600.000 are getting unemployment benefits. And 46.700.000 are getting food stamps.
Most people on food stamps are people who HAVE a job, but a minimum wage job and fall under the poverty line. Usually families with only one person working, or large familes with two people working. "The working poor"

Oh, btw, social welfare get 59 billion a year, while corporate subsidies get 92 billion a year. Large chunk (more then 30%) of that goes to banks and oil companies, who are reporting record profits since early 20th century, while our gas and credit is most expensive in 60 years.

And last thing. Since 2001 we spent 708 billion on welfare. In same period we spent 1 TRILLION, 424 BILLION on Iraq war.

Welfare isn't bad, the bad part is that there are loopholes that people abuse

I find that all the people spamming "thanks Obama" gifs like people blame him for things that aren't his fault are the same ones who blamed Bush for Hurricane Katrina and 9/11.

<implying that a social safety net is a bigger waste of money than our defense budget
<implying the military really needs more tanks

Because every single poor person is some black guy living off welfare with no intention of getting a job.

Because every person on welfare is a poor disabled person who can't physically or mentally work for a living.

because socialism totally didn't work in Canada, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, or all those other places it worked in.
in fact, Canada in particular was in a position to totally ride out any form of recession when it was run by a socialist government (under Paul Martin), and only started to feel any sort of problems until a conservative was elected into power (Stephen Harper).
seriously, Harper is one of the biggest ******* morons ever

I'm not American, nor am I educated in politics or economics.
Hell, this post and the comments are the only information I have on this welfare business here.

But, given that America has fallen on harsh economic times, an unemployment benefit (which I assume this is) seems like a good choice.
I mean, how can you consider yourself any kind of considerate person if you object to your tax dollars being spent to support those who are unable to support themselves?

Now, dickheads who sit on their ass and suck up welfare without even looking for a job is another matter entirely, but no system is perfect.

I don't really give a crap about what he looks like he's doing, only what I know he's doing. What I know he's doing is trying to undermine the constitution by passing executive orders behind the back of the other branches because he knows he can't do what he wants to do. He doesn't give a crap about what america really needs or wants, just what he wants.

Also, funny that the media ignored one of the parents of the murdered kids from Connecticut claiming on television that he would go down fighting before he let the government take his gun.

expanded medicare
ended dont ask dont tell
ended the preexisting condition ******** and expanded medicare (may not have been good for you but it was good for my family my mother hasnt had health insurance in 20 years)
improved foreign policy (burma is actually talking to us or are they called myanmar now?)
and the economy is in recovery (three typical indicators we use as toward the health of the economy are GDP growth unemployment and inflation rates all of which are in a better spot than they were before he started)

this isn't to say he is without his faults
allowing the massacre in syria for so long being the one off the top of my head
but to say he has done nothing is unfair and untrue

too bad countries with more welfare programs llike sweden, have a terrible quality of life and a tiny middle class
User avatar #39 to #3 - screamingdemon ONLINE (02/18/2013) [-]
What are you talking about? Sweden and all of Scandinavia has been listed as the happiest countries in the world several times, and we definitely do not have a tiny middle class.
