My defender has a 5 speed, but i dont notice the difference really.

Actually, in fast adn furious, they do not go into higher gears, since that would not give them bonus acceleration. Instead they shift down to a lower gear, giving them an extraboost, but also bringing additional damage to the engine and afterwards shift into the higher gear, which then can produce more acceleration than before and therefore a higher speed at a shorter timeinterval.
