I just got a appetite for the classics, if you ask most of our generation they will agree, but then there is those few who actually enjoy reading the books of old.

i actually enjoy some classics, I'm on my second way through lord of the rings, enjoyed lord of the flies (love the lord(s)), and am looking forward to midsummer nights dream, but i found Mockingbird rather...slow moving. That's all. Yay civilized conversation about opinions!

I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is a not book if you want to have a intense read. But i enjoy it because i do not compare it to other books of other styles. I compare to it to what it is. A book that is created to show the life of a family with a little girl growing up.

And i don't think people can complain on that it is a book that is rater well written.

It is, undoubtedly, a well written book, i have to admit that. When comparing it to the fact this generation has little or no experience with the problem of racial prejudice, or with life in a small town, it may explain why we have issues relating to the book. Many classics are difficult to relate to in today's society.

But there is a reason why they are called classics, they are no longer a part of modern culture, expect in the highest grades of arch culture.

A true statement indeed. To become a classic must be from another social era, thus only those with a high understanding of literature and history fully enjoy they classics to their fullest, a level which many can not hope to reach.

I feel bad for you if that's the best book you've read. Also, since almost everyone has to read it in high school, you sound like one of those people that never read a book in their life, but puts the books from high school english class on their facebook page to seem smart.

I work in a bookstore, i am Norwegian so few actually read it, no one is forced to read it at school. And i have read 9 books this year, and it is only February.

Am I supposed to be happy for you? Well I'm not. I hate you because to kill a mockingbird is a fucking awful book. It's boring, it's about rape, and it's slow. There are no redeeming qualities... My favorite book is The Electric Church. It takes place in the future where a religion exists that converts people into robotic monks. An asassin is hired to infiltrate the church and stop the movement. It's fucking awesome, and probably about a million times more entertaining that to kill a fucking piece of shit mockingbird
