Well. I mean, what do people expect? We live in a military country. I may not agree with everything we do, but it is what it is. I really don't believe a country could change it's entire infrastructure and not collapse, at least temporarily. Which is why America will continue to be the Military power of the world. And don't get too upset about that, because there always has, and always will be, at least one military power absurdly powerful, throwing their strength around. Once people learn to accept that, things really don't look so bad.

Well the people saying these things are almost always Europeans or self-hating Americans. It's a lot easier to make a counter argument against the European side than delve into the mindfuck that is the American self-hatred complex. You really can't make a historical argument against that.

The second amendment says the citizens have the right to bear arms to form a militia. I don't see any militias around, just a bunch of rednecks buying as many assault rifles as they can before the ban comes into effect. inb4 "shut up obamafag", I'm not defending Obama's choices, I'm just saying that people's knowledge of the constitution is flawed. Also, the 9th amendment simply says that there are rights not enumerated in the constitution. It has nothing to do with guns and is completely open for interpretation.

And how can they form a militia without arms? Just because there isn't one now doesn't mean there couldn't be one. The point of a militia is to quickly gather able-bodied civilians for the defense of the State, and not the political state, but the people and the land of the state. It doesn't need to be officially organized, and it can arise with a tiny bit of social networking. Hell, a militia is even easier to form in this day and age than any other.

Besides, if you ban guns, black markets will form. I don't understand what all the butthurt is about. If you really want something that bad, you'll find the means to get it.

Take a look at these "assault weapons bans". It pretty much takes semi-automatic rifles off the market. Any semi-automatic weapon with one or more (cosmetic, mind) "military features" like pistol grips are technically illegal.

Like I said, if you want guns, you can get whatever you want. There are always ways around the laws, and not always in illegal ways.

Unfortunately, we're a republic specifically designed by it's founders to avoid "mobocracy" The whole concept of federalism that this government was built upon is a strong central government built on majority rule, but not so much majority rule so that the government can protect the minority's rights.

And America has many freedoms. This whole gun debate is because of the increased media attention to shootings. It will die down and freedoms will increase again. It's a simple cycle that's been going on with various issues since the nation's birth. People will become politically active, and the bans won't happen or will be repealed. Then freedoms will increase and everything will be okay again. It's just the government dealing with an issue that they haven't gotten before and are trying something out and seeing if it works. The Great Depression, the Recession, and Prohibition are all examples of this. Things may seem bad to the people who are part of it at the time, but history will look at it and say "Wow, THOSE were some dumbass decisions."

They didn't have the Bill of Rights when they revolted, that wasn't until 10 years later. The 2nd amendment was created with two purposes, the first and most obvious was so they could form a militia in case of attack, since there was no standing army yet. The second purpose was so the citizens could revolt in case the father's plan didn't work, and the government turned into a monarchy they could revolt.

Where you are incorrect is that it is not to reform the type of government we have today, the government we have today works as intended, the people make the decisions of who to put in power. Changes can be made politically by the people. Guns were for if they could not, if a king took over and held all the power.

And I highly doubt a violent revolt would get anywhere today, we have a highly powered standing military. And there's really not enough national unity to do something on that scale, the most you could have is a local revolution. But all this can be done politically, that part of the amendment is currently useless. Just because you don't agree with who is in power is not grounds for revolution, they were sworn in by the people, which is the only thing the founding fathers intended.

I think Americans are more upset that 54-59% of their tax dollars go directly to the military while the companies and banks that wrecked the economy in the first place get billions upon billions of dollars in bailouts and subsidies. All the while things like education and infrastructure are being cut.

Throw in a two-party system where the government is in constant gridlock, and it is darn near impossible to get another party into even state government, and you have quite the royal mess.
