The drill sergeant one wouldnt work on me.
When we went away to the annual camp at cadets our NCOs would barge in and yell. You eventually learnt to just sleep through their yelling

When I went to camp the NCO's wouldn't even bother yelling, they just went bunk by bunk flipping beds. It worked for the first 3 weeks, after that, when the beds were flipped, we would just grab our blankets and sleep on the floor.

Yeah, that happened to me. Just a cold pail of water on my face instead.

What you don't sleep through is them flipping your bunk.
Or dumping your canteen on your head.
Or stacking as many other privates ruck sacks on top of you to see how many they can get before you wake up.
My DS's were funny like that.
