Alexander was tutored by Aristotle in science and the political arts, and he received a complete education in military tactics and strategy from the great Macedonian generals, Antipater and Parmenion. He didn't just conquer all of Asia. He did so with an army of disparate mongol tribes who had been fighting amongst themselves for centuries, and have never before been unified into a single army under a strong, tactical leader.
What made Genghis Khan great wasn't that he made the largest continuous land empire in history, but that he literally made it from scratch. He was born a Chieftain's son, but his father was killed and his family was exiled. His mother taught him how to survive in the wild, and he did so for a couple of years. He went from being homeless and mostly alone, to eventually becoming one of the greatest leaders in history.
