Not unless you volunteer somewhere that is very related to the field you want to go into. And those are called internships, and good ones are just as hard to get as jobs. You can't just go volunteer at the soup kitchen and expect that to actually help you with anything. I have 2+ years experience in fast food and I can't get a job at McDonalds.

Places are fucking hiring. I worked at mcdonalds for a year and a half in high school, plus several other jobs since, and I can't get anything now that I'm in college.
Doing yard work and such does not beef up your resume, companies want previous experience where they can actually contact your employer, and you actually got a paycheck. The most that would do is give you some personal references, which aren't quite as big a concern to employers.

I've applied for Mcdonalds, it's more difficult than you think, there's an app online you have to fill out, and if they like that they call you in for an interview, and then if they like that they wait two weeks to tell you when you will be doing onsite training, and then if they like that they will hire you and put you in the spotlight for two weeks and then after the two weeks if they like you then you stay on, otherwise you are fired.

It's not as simple as "go work at mcdonalds"

There is always something you can do to show initiative, and that is what employers like more.

OK obviously you aren't from the UK, Jobs i assume work differently here than they do there, for starters, we couldn't be able to do dog walking, unless it were for friends and family, strangers wouldn't trust you with their pets unless you show some proof that you aren't an animal murderer or some shit, and shoveling driveways? everyone around me are dicks, so they wouldn't pay anyways, I just about managed to score a voluntary job at the British Heart Foundation charity shop, I had to fill out an application and have an interview, for what? I've been putting books on a shelf every monday and friday for the past three weeks.

I'm from the UK, getting jobs hasn't been too hard for me. I was a football steward for a bit (hated it though, so quit). Also got a job as a team member at a football stadium (No connection) and worked my way up to Team Leader in a couple of months. Quit that after a year. Now currently work at a Tesco Express. Wanna know my secret? I fucking applied. I applied for every job I saw, I handed my C.V everywhere I could, I did a fucking lot and got no where, but I still tried. Story time! I doubt anyone has had it as hard as me when it comes to getting a job or trying to make consistent income.
Businesses I've tried to start: Age:14-19
-Sold on eBay for 2 years. Could not make any money because fees were to high and on top of that banned for having multiple accounts.
-Tried selling on Amazon. NOPE. Banned. Poor business strategy. 3 people filed an a-z claim out of 5000 shipped orders which caused me to get banned.
Tried out Google adsense. Banned. Someone click bombed one of videos my videos on YouTube causing Google to be like Nope.
-Tried to sell the rest of my inventory on eBid that was left over from Amazon and eBay. My account got frozen because it required information to verify my identity. I sent the information 6 months ago. Nope. Frozen.
-Tried Diablo 3 botting. Kind of a success but my accounts ended up getting banned eventually.
-Try to be a StarCraft 2 progamer. I thought i was okay at the game; I reached grandmaster but I couldn't win a single tournament. I couldn't even win the 20 dollar tournaments. Fuck me.
After all my business ideas fail, I try getting a minimum wage job. I applied to over 1000 jobs in southern california and after a 1000 applications (some were resent over and over again) I got a job at Ross after my mom had to personally talk to the manager and suck the manager's sandy vagina. I never worked a minimum wage job before nor have I worked a cash register before. They put me on the job immediately without any training and I get fired after 12 hours because I fucked up at the cash register too many times.
It wasn't even a large amount it was by 20 dollars. If you didn't want me to fuck up sandy vagina manger, try training your newly hired employees next time. After Ross, I applied to 500 more jobs and kind of gave up after that. I've been sitting at home going to community college with too much free time on hands. I want to be productive but life has to bend me over and put it's mighty cock in me.
