This is oversimplified fluff to make people happy.
Practically, there is no brain function or action you can do that doesn't involve regions scattered all over the brain to achieve. The left-right divide model of how our brains work is really quite outdated nowadays, it just lets liberal arts students feel that they had no choice about undertaking a pointless career...

this seems a tad biased...
in any case, as far as I know, the right-brain-left-brain concept is used to describe the very basics of the brain's functionality to laymen and people who can't deal with complex explanations... the real distribution of each of those attributes is much more complicated and scattered across the whole brain in a bunch of fun-sized chunks.

was talking to this girl who tries really hard to be hipster
she's really into art (at least this year she is) and so I told her she must be right brained
then she said "you mean left brained" and I corrected her and said no, the right side is the creative one
she started crying
I asked her what was wrong and she said she wanted to be left brained because a majority of people are right handed
