I'm sorry, but as much as I love Charizard and Blastoise, Venusaur is a boss.    
   
In Firered/Leafgreen, you can't find any truly decent Grass pokemon. At least by having Venusaur, you can get an Arcanine and a Gyarados (or whatever you choose) for your fire and water types.    
   
And two words: LEECH SEED. Seriously, with it, Venusaur not only drains the life out of its opponents, but the effect works after you switch it out for another pokemon. It's also unable to be poisoned.

I really don't understand all of the hate towards bulbasaur. Sure, it doesn't look as cool as charmander, but back in red & blue venasaur swept **** . Not only does it have some of the best type matchups against every trainer, it got a guaranteed critical hit every turn with razor leaf thanks to glitches all over the place, where charizard got stuck with a "final move" of fire spin.

Even 12 years later I still have to think competitive about my childhood games...
