Did this for final in Illustration class, it's a kerosene lamp.
I just kinda felt like uploading it to see if anyone could give
me constructive criticism. Please don't be a dick -___-

Black and white prismacolor pencils and grey/brown Mitientis paper.
and I realize there's a small portion not finished. Photo was taken before finished obviously

The funny part is, I go through the same thing. I think that's how every artist is. I always go to school and see the craziest **** on the walls.

The thing is though I used a photo for this assignment. It's so hard for me to just sit down and draw something, and when I do, it looks like **** to me. lol.

in all honesty I feel everyone who has some sort of artistic merit goes through this, especially seeing as everyone has to start somewhere. Unfortunately most people can't take criticism...But also great work! wish I could draw that detailed

I'm pretty good at taking criticism. But only if it's sincere, you know? I do have a knack for details, but often times I see simple stuff and find myself wishing I could draw that. It's really different styles I wish I could do. Like tattoos, or band logos, which is why I'm getting into digital design and illustration.

well with the work you're doing I think you'll go places, and no critiques from me, other than what the other guy said, kind of looks leaned to the right, even though it's probably just the angle. Ya i get the criticism thing, I get into a decent amount of arguments with individuals about their "talent" mostly just because they aren't very talented yet they scream from the heavens praises of their own name. Kind of annoys me. Just this morning I was in an argument because I made a comment (not the nicest comment, but it had a constructive point to it eventually) about what someone named their piece...he didn't take my criticism very well haha

Thanks. :) and yeah, sometimes when critiquing, the slightest hint of bitchiness or whatever will set someone/an artist off. It's ridiculous sometimes. Thankfully I'm not like that.

As for names of pieces, sometimes I just don't understand them. Except when it comes to abstract art, it's more about evoking emotion, as well as the artist's feelings/thoughts so some obscurity is understandable.

Don't even get me started on modern art. Especially those pieces that are just a small, red square in the middle of a piece of paper or some ****. lol.

haha I don't even qualify modern art as art XP IT's more about symbolism than any sort of skill anymore...kinda sad

That's a fantastic drawing, very well done.
One thing though, you tended to curve it to your right.
I bet your right handed huh?
Sounds dumb but what works for me is using a ruler for when I lay down that first mark for a base, it tends to keep me more even. I bet you did this freehand too? You talented ************.

Thanks, dude. Means a lot actually.

And I do see the curve. It might actually be the photo. Whenever I look at the actual paper and drawing it seems rather straight. I'll have to take a ruler down the middle and see. I am right handed, and yes it was free hand. **** took HOURS.

Thanks a ton. If I remember right, probably like 5-6 hours.
And that's digital right? It's not bad, really.

For you, I actually took the time to draw this out if you want any help with heads. I'm not the best at them myself (4 weeks of figure illustration) but the foundation helps.

Basically, start with a circle. Second, add another circle, smaller, inside anywhere. (This sets the angle of the head) with a cross-section in the middle.

Basically from there, the vertical cross section projects down for the jawline. The horizontal projects all around the circle for the eyebrow line.

It's harder to explain in words. But I hope maybe the picture can help. (:

Thanks :) Saved it. That isn't my usual style though. I just drew a kind of disney style because I wanted to practise. This is my regular style

This image is not mastered with vectors or anything, so the lines are pretty bad, but you get the consept. I started drawing last year, so I guess progress has been made. If you only spent 5-6 hours on that drawing, I would say you are a total badass. I probably spent the same amount of time on this xD

Yeah I was gonna say, I realize of course no two people draw the same way. But I'm sure if you tried it out, the same foundation and base sketch can be applied to your drawings. But you're a hell of a lot better than me with digital drawing. Especially colors. It looks good. :D

Thank you :o Yeah it can probably be applied, and I will try it tomorrow ;) It's 4 am here haha. I have been trying to find a style to stick to, and I always find myself coming back to this one, so I guess that's just how I draw. Oh well. Now I'll go. Good night!
