Can you explain the plus/minus to me? I remember the whole damn **** with this (e.g. factoring ax^2 + bx + c... sorta)

That just means that you have to calculate both the plus and the minus answer to the equation.
so you would calculate both:
-b - (b^2-4ac squared) over 2a
and:
-b + (b^2-4ac squared) over 2a

I mean, how is it used? Why is there two answers? And I guess I do not remember how to factor ax^2 + bx + c

algebra one has already fallen out of my head... and I was so good at it last year, too...

The only reason there are two answers is because.......

**** us students that's why.

Something to do with the fact that finding whether it is a plus or a minus is too freaking complicated so finding out both answers is sufficient

Not always, if the square root equals 0 it only has one solution.
User avatar #14 to #9 - aazz (02/07/2013) [-]
there are still 2 solutions but x1=x2= -b/2*a , the two roots are equal
